LCC 13, Centralia 2

(Centralia, WA) The Centralia Blazers came out firing in their showdown with Lower Columbia but a huge 5th inning for the Red Devils was too much to overcome. The Blazers had a chance to open the scoring in the bottom of 1st after a walk by Drew Forgione and a base hit from Wes Kuzminsky with 1 out but a nifty double play by the Devils ended that threat.

Centralia did break the ice for starting pitching Cole Doughty in the bottom of the 2nd when Gabe Farrer led off with a base hit and was moved top 2nd on a sac bunt from Braden Smutz. Farrer then scored on a stand up RBI double by Will Garcia who ripper a shot to the left field wall. After a walk and a fielder’s choice Garcia scored on an base hit from Colton Titus and the Blazers took a 2-0 lead. The inning chased starter Ryan Teague for LCC.

Justin Solt came in to relieve in the bottom of the 3rd and had the Blazers number shutting them out for 4 innings. Centralia really could not get their offense back on track after the 2nd inning. Meantime, LCC scored 1 in the top of the 4th and then 9 in the 5th. Centralia went through 4 pitchers in the 5th alone and when the dust settled found themselves on the wrong end of a 10-2 score and never recovered.

The Blazers fall to 5-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play. Our Awards West Printwares Blazer of the Game went to Will Garcia. Centralia is back in action on Saturday with a twin bill against Pierce with the 1st pitch at 1p.
