(Sumner, WA)

Zack Robertson’s impact for the Puyallup Vikings cannot be understated. His involvement in all three Puyallup goals including the late stoppage time winner carried Puyallup to a 3-2 win over league rival Sumner.

Robertson scored his goals in stoppage time in both halves, and tallied an assist on Braylon Bowie’s goal in the 49th minute. Sumner scored goals from Logan Rygol and Afsheen Alijani, in the loss.

This match was a battle of the undefeated with Puyallup coming in (5-0-1) and Sumner (6-0). With a new SPSL format, the match would be the only regular season battle between the two foes.

Puyallup started Peyton Lewis in the first half before Alexis Cruz-Hernandez played in the second. Kyle Goodrow patrolled the Sumner goal.

The match began with Logan Rygol scoring in the 11th minute to put the home side in front. Sumner controlled the pace of play for the majority of the first half, yet Puyallup did not go away. Off a corner, Zack Robertson headed in a Curran Caufield cross to level the match in first half stoppage time.

Half number two began right where it left off. Afsheen Alijani buried the go ahead goal for Sumner in the 47th minute to hand Sumner a 2-1 lead. Minutes later, Zack Robertson’s curling free kick bended away from the target. Braylon Bowie volleyed the set piece into the net, and the match was deadlocked two minutes after Sumner captured the lead.

Late in the game, Puyallup was awarded a free kick inches outside of the penalty area. With such close range, Puyallup knew who to call. Zack Robertson slithered the game winning goal, to put Puyallup in the driver seat. The goal bookended an intense game that went down to the final whistle. In the end, Puyallup stole a 3-2 win over their SPSL foes. The two teams continue league play on April the 14th.
