(4/4/25)
It looks like for the fifth consecutive year, the Augusta National Women’s Amateur will have another thrilling conclusion. University of Oregon’s Kiara Romero and defending champion Lottie Woad are tied at the top of the leaderboard at 9-under par through two rounds of play.
The first two rounds are at the Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, which were played Wednesday and yesterday. Today, the entire field plays Augusta National for a practice round and an opportunity to create memories for a lifetime. Tomorrow is the final round, with the top 30 players and ties will tee off at Augusta National for the chance to be the ANWA Champion.
One shot being the duo at 9-under is a trio at 8-under par. Carla Bernat Escuder from Spain, Andrea Revuelta, also from Spain, and Megha Ganne, who’s teammates with Revuelta at Stanford. Ganne roared out to the lead yesterday, posting a 9-under 63. This is the fifth time Ganne has competed in the ANWA, and hadn’t broken 70 until yesterday. Stanford is traditionally a golf school, with loads of talent on both the men’s and women’s teams. At this edition of the ANWA, six Stanford players are competing this week, and all of them made the cut to the final round tomorrow. In NCAA team competitions, only five players can tee up for an event. That’s how talented the defending champions are.
16-year-old Asterisk Talley is in her second Championship appearance and finds herself two shots back of the leaders. Last year, she finished T-8. This year, she finds herself in a prime position to grab the win. At only 16, it’s remarkably impressive for her to be in this position for a second time.
Seattle’s Lauryn Nguyen missed the cut in her second appearance at the ANWA. She fired a 1-under 71 yesterday but failed to record a birdie en route to a 4-over 76 and a two-day total of 3-over par. Nguyen will return to Northwestern, which is in the top 25, for the Silverado Showdown in Napa, California next week before the Big Ten Championships, held in Maryland from April 18 through April 20.
Coverage of the final round will be tomorrow on NBC from 9 AM to Noon.
