Jordan Eberle tied the game with 90 seconds left, but in the end, Nazem Kadri’s second consecutive overtime winner downed the Seattle Kraken 4-3. The Kraken have lost three games in a row as they return home for a three game homestand.

Seattle finished a four game road trip that saw Seattle win their first game against Chicago 6-2. Two straight losses for Seattle to Minnesota and Edmonton set the stage for Tuesday night’s tilt in Calgary. On Long Island, the Flames in their last game, won in overtime on a goal from Nazem Kadri. The Flames came into the evening four points back of St. Louis for the final playoff spot in the west with three games in hand. Dustin Wolf was tabbed with the start for Calgary, with the Flames desperately needing a win to stay in the chase. Seattle started Joey Daccord between the pipes.

The midway portion of the opening period saw the Flames draw first blood. Adam Klapka capitalized off a scramble in front of Joey Daccord’s net to put Calgary in front 1-0 with 10:58 played in the game. The Flames led in shots on goals after one period nine to eight. The Flames lead at the break marked the sixth straight game Seattle did not lead after 20 minutes. The last time the Kraken led after at first intermission was the wild overtime win against Montreal back on March 12.

Just like the first period, a turning point came near the midway mark of second. With Seattle on the power play, tape to tape passing set up Jaden Schwartz off a feed from Jared McCann. Schwartz at the door step buried the power play tally at 10:25 to tie the game. The Kraken got a break in the late stages of the period. Tye Kartye sprung lose through Calgary’s defense and roofed a howitzer past Dustin Wolf. The goal at 18:42 put Seattle in front 2-1. Seattle held a slight advantage in shots on goal after two periods leading 20-19. The Kraken outshot the Flames 12-10 in the middle frame.

The third period, saw the Kraken face adversity at 10:25 of the stanza. Seattle’s Brandon Montour took a double minor for high sticking. Seattle killed off the first minor, but Nazem Kadri wristed a shot over the glove of Joey Daccord at 13:42. The game was tied again. Calgary after losing their lead in the second period, got it back. Off a Calgary faceoff win, Rasmus Anderson’s blasted a one timer through traffic beating Joey Daccord with the goal at 15:49. Seattle looked to counter with a response of their own.

The Kraken pulled Joey Daccord for an extra attacker with 2:10 left in the game. 40 seconds later, the game was leveled again. Captain Jordan Eberle poked an initial shot from Jared McCann past Dustin Wolf to tie the game. It was the Kraken’s sixth goal with an extra attacker this season. Overtime was needed in Calgary to decide it.

In three on three overtime, Vince Dunn chiseled a point blank shot that was stopped by Dustin Wolf. Seconds later, Nazem Kadri broke free on a breakaway. Kadri went backhand forehand on Joey Daccord to win the game for Calgary. For Kadri, the overtime winner was his second overtime winner in a row. The first player in Flames history to do so.

Joey Daccord was dished the loss making 33 saves, while rookie Dustin Wolf made 26 saves for Calgary.

With the St. Louis Blues routing the Montreal Canadiens 6-1, Seattle’s elimination number drops to four.

Up Next: The Kraken return for a three game homestand against the Edmonton Oilers Thursday at 7pm. Seattle will then welcome the Dallas Stars for a rare two game series Saturday and Monday.
