The Neah Bay Red Devils are state Champs! Below is our coverage of the entire tournament from last year’s winners to the Regional scores and re-caps to our trophy day stories. All stories and re-caps written by Jamie Council, photos by Lane Mathews.
Neah Bay is officially a three-peat state champion with the 10 point win over Garfield-Palouse in the Viking’s first state championship appearance since 2008. Qwaapeys Greene continued to a be a force with a game high 16 points and four assists. The Red Devils proved they can go the distance as one of the most fit and disciplined teams; all starting five played a full 32 minutes: Greene, Angel Halttunen, Caylee Moss, Cerise Moss, and Wiinuk Martin.
8am 4th/6th Place Game (10) Oakesdale 51, (8) Pateros 47
Nannie junior Addison Henton got things going early from distance and Stevie Simmons further helped Pateros with coast to coast defense into offense plays. Simmons was striking from beyond the arc in the third quarter, but that’s when Nighthawk Brayden Henley got in on the fun, swapping buckets.
In a close game, Henley stayed strong from the free throw line to ice the game and finished with 18 points.
11:15am 3rd/5th Place Game
(5) Wellpinit 57, (2) Waterville-Mansfield 46
In her final game of her high school career, senior Danea Norman left it all out on the court. Norman scored a team high 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Wellpinit’s highest ever state finish in program history. Fellow senior Rayah Hill contributed 13 points in the 11 point Redskin win.
The Shockers’ pair of the Nelson’s would not be denied though as sophomore Delainey Nelson had a game high 22 points while junior Hanna Nelson recorded 14 points.
Due to a 14 point first half performance Bradyn Henley, it was 25-17 in favor of Nighthawks at half. Grace Perry hit an early three, Henley was rolling, and the stout interior defense by Oakesdale made Sunnyside Christian suffer from the field.
Oakesdale will face Pateros for 4th/ 6th place Saturday.
Pateros turned it on in the second half to keep their season alive. Lead by Zayne Ravenstein’s 20 points, Pateros faull face Oakesdale for hardware Saturday.
Semifinals (Winner to Championship, Loser to 3rd place game) (1) Neah Bay 53, (5) Wellpinit 30
The Red Devils continue to prove why they are the number one overall seed. In the semifinal game, Wiinik Marton had tight play on both ends and finished with 16 points as Neah Bay will look to repeat — Facing Garfield-Palouse in the championship.
Willpinit will face Waterfield-Mansfield for 3rd/ 5th.
Delanie Nelson had three first half threes and Kira Bratner had 14 of her 19 points in the first half. GP play on the glass and high scoring offense made it too tall of a task for WM.
GP will face Neah Bay for a state championship while WM will match up with Wellpinit for 3rd/5th.

Wednesday, March 5 (Winner to Quarterfinals, Loser Out)
(11) Sunnyside Christian 47, (6) Inchelium 45
After holding the #6 Hornets to just 4 points in the first quarter, Sunnyside Christian did just enough to skate by into the quarterfinals with the 47-45 win.
Inchelium was paced by Haley Peone who had a game high 20 points, but a more complete team effort made the difference for the Knights with five players scoring four points or more.
Devan Harrington had a team high 18 points that included four scores from distance. Natalie De Boer added 11 points. Haley Van Wieringen led the charge in only allowing the Hornets 2 second chance points. She had 10 rebounds, 6 of them on the defensive side of the ball.
Sunnyside Christian plays #5 Welpinit in the quarterfinals.
The WCK Wildcats played the fourth ranked Eagles close, but no upset here. Yakama Tribal’s 10-6 first quarter lead made the difference.
Defense into offense is what the Eagles are all about, converting 25 turnover points from 12 steals. They also have more overall contributors with eight Eagles putting up points as compared to just three scorers for WCK including 18 points off the bench as compared to none from the Wildcats.
Amber Onepenne paced Yakama with 10 points and four steals. The Eagles play #3 Garfield-Palouse in the quarterfinals.

(8) Pateros 51, (9) Lummi Nation 47
In a game that had 12 lead changes, Pateros was down at 21 points at one time but found themselves on top by four to stamp their ticket to the quarterfinals.
Free throws made the difference as the Nannies put in 11 points from the charity stripe. Stevie Simmons went 6/10 from the free throw line en route to a game high 17 points. Zayne Ravenstein added 12 points while Addison Henton grabbed 10 defensive rebounds for Pateros.
The Nannies face #2 Waterfield-Manson in the quarterfinals.
