WF West 68, Black Hills 46
(Centralia, WA) The Senior laden WF West Bearcats came out firing from the start with clearly the idea they were not done playing in 2025 and overwhelmed the Wolves in the 1st quarter. Black Hills actually jumped out to a 6-2 lead but then a swarming defense and a hot offense propelled WF West on a 17-1 run to finish the 1st 8 minutes with a 19-7. 5 different Bearcats got in the scorebook in the opening quarter led by Weston Potter’s 7.
The Wolves did bounce back a bit in the 2nd outscoring the Bearcats 13-9 to pull within 28-20 at the break. Much of this was attributed to Grady Westlund picking up his 3rd foul and sitting on the bench for most of the 1st half. The Wolves’ James Morgan found room to operate and knocked down 8 of his 15 points in the 2nd.
Westlund was back in to start the 3rd quarter and he simply took-over. Westlund was dominant in the paint grabbing a game high 18 rebounds and scored 14 in the 3rd quarter to push the Bearcats lead to 47-34. Westlund was the game high scorer at 19 until Potter hit a bucket in the final minute for his 20th point.
However, Westlund did the damage and was our Thorbeckes MVP choice with the double-double of 19 points and 18 boards. Potter finished with 20 points and 5 boards and Gage Brumfield also hit double digits with 11 points and 3 rebounds.
Morgan and Peyton Faught led the Wolves each with 15 points. Black Hills had their season come to an end and finsihed 14-8 for the year.
WF West improves to 13-11 and is one win away from advancing to the State Tournament. They will play Thursday night in a winner to state, loser out contest against Columbia River. The game is at Woodland and top-off is 6pm.
Scoring
WF West: Weston Potter 20, Grady Westlund 19, Gage Brumfield 11, Ross Kelley 7, Fox Rogerson 5, Carlos Vallejo 4, Hayden Rooney 2

Grady Westlund takes over the 3rd quarter
Tumwater 54, Washougal 36
(Centralia, WA) The Tumwater T-Birds have had an up and down season where they looked like no one could beat them some nights and other nights not so much. This again looks to be a team with 5 seniors not ready to have their high school careers end. The swarming defense the T-Birds came out against a fairly young Washougal team was too much for the Panthers to handle and fell behind quickly.
With 4 senior’s starting it was actually the sophomore Luke Overbay who literally controlled much of the game from start to finish. The seniors Sahara Anthony III, Jake Dillon, Bryce Morgan and Beckett Wall also bought into feeding Overbay who was dominant in the middle. Overbay scored a game high 23 points well spread out with 12 in the 1st half and 11 in the 2nd half. He also gobbled up 13 rebounds for the double-double.
Tumwater’s defense never let the Panthers offense find a rhythm limiting them to just 13 1st half points and holding them all under double digits for the game. Coleman Multanen and Dylan Gibson led the Panters with 9 each. Washougal never gave up and played hard to the end but just could not sustain their offensive runs. Washougal had their season come to an end.
Tumwater will get a shot at the State Tournasment on Thursday when they play Ridgefield in a winner to state, loser out contest. They will be the 2nd game at Woodland High School with a tip-off time set for 7:45pm.
Our Thorbeckes MVP went to Luke Overbay who finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Sahara Anthony was in the running with a solid game at the point with a dozen points and 4 boards.
Scoring
Tumwater: Luke Overbay 23, Sahara Anthony III 12, Jake Dillon 10, Landon Anchors 5, Julian Balsley 2, Bryce Morgan 1, Braeden Konrad 1
Washougal: Coleman Multanen 9, Dylan Gibson 9, Alex Frost 8, Jackson Multanen 7, Luca DiGiacomo 3

Ridgefield 54, Black Hills 49
(Tumwater, WA) The Black Hills Wolves were the #1 seed coming out of the EVCO 2A and they faced the 4 seed from the GSHL 2A, Ridgefield in their opener. But Wolves coach Jeff Gallagher knew they would be in for a tough game. Gallagher says take a look at their league, their top 3 teams (RA Long, Columbia River & Mark Morris) are all in the top 8 of the RPI at 3-6-8 respectively. Ridgefield is the 4th place team and they’re 18th. All 4 of their schools are in front of us so this is going to be a challenge.
Gallagher’s analysis was spot on as the 2 teams battled with the Spudders holding the upper hand leading 13-12 after the 1st quarter then extending that lead to 9, 32-23 at the half. The Wolves did a good job in containing the Spudders’ leading scorer Jamison McCann who averages more than 27 points a game. McCann had just 7 at the break and would finish with 18, well below his average.
However, that opened the door to Jack Hughes who averages 12 points a game. McCann, Drew, Krsul, Henry Wikstrom and Isaiah Ashenfelter were dishing to the big man inside and Hughes didn’t disappoint knocking down 12 in the 1st half and leading all scorers with 20. Hughes also grabbed 7 boards.
The Spudders pushed their lead to 10 after 3, 48-38 but Black Hills would never go away. Despite being down by 10 they were down as many as 16 and fought back each time. The Wolves made their strongest run in the 4th quarter and had an open 3-point shot late in the game that would have tied it.
James Morgan, Quinton Morrill and his twin brother Talon Morrill all hit double digits and their tenacity would not allow the Spudders to run away with this game. The Morrill’s were constantly picking off steals and simply playing great bothersome defense. Morgan also led the Wolves with 7 boards.
In the 4th quarter, the Wolves shut down the Ridgefield offense and the Spudders had scored only 4 points with less than a minute to go in the game. After a 3-point miss by Wikstrom that went halfway in and then popped out the Wolves had a chance. Morgan had the ball with an opening to the hoop but instead found Peyton Faught in the corner and he dished it to the sophomore who put up a 3-point shot for the tie but came up short and Ridgefield rebounded.
The Wolves fouled Hughes who went to the line and sank both freethrows to seal the win. Hughes’ 20 points, 7 rebounds stiff defense and sinking the game sealing free throws was enough to win our Thorbeckes MVP award for the game.
Ridgefield now takes on Mark Morris on Tuesday at Mark Morris in the semifinals at 6pm. Black Hills will battle WF West in the consolation at Centralia High school Tuesday night at 6pm in a loser out contest.
Scoring
Ridgefield: Jack Hughes 20, Jamison McCann 18, Drew Krsul 6, Henry Wikstrom 5, Isaiah Ashenfelter 5
Black Hills: James Morgan 13, Quinton Morrill 13, Talon Morrill 12, Tristan DeVille 5, Peyton Faught 3, Jaxsen Beck 3

Ridgefield with a scoring surge in the 2nd quarter
Wednesday, Feb. 12 (Pigtail)
WF West 80, Hockinson 67 (Below)
Washougal 79, Aberdeen 44 (Micah Rice of The Columbian)
WF West 80, Hockinson 67
(Chehalis, WA) The WF West Bearcats were dialed in as they looked for revenge against the Hockinson Hawks who defeated the Bearcats in Chehalis 47-44 on January 13th. WF West began the pigtail game on a 21-0 run behind dominance in the paint from Carlos Vallejo and some big threes from Ross Kelley. While Hockinson would finally get on the board late in the opening quarter, WF West had a 23-6 lead after one.
In the second quarter, things were much more even as Hockinson began to find some offensive success. Ethan Hunt hit a couple of threes while Oliver Garner could only be slowed down by foul trouble. Vallejo continued to be too much in the paint however as WF West continued to build their lead up to 45-24 at halftime.
Despite outscoring WF West 43-37 in the second half, the deficit was too big for Hockinson to overcome. The Hawks cut the deficit down to 12 in the 4th quarter, but Grady Westlund’s defense and rebounding kept the Bearcats levelheaded despite the Hawks comeback bid. Gage Brumfield’s monster dunk and Weston Potter’s nine point second half sealed the deal for the Bearcats. Ethan Hunt put on a show late along with a huge second half for Lucas Wray, but WF West hung on for the 80-67 win.
Our Thorbeckes MVP went to Grady Westlund for WF West. Westlund’s presence in the paint was magnified in the second half as the Hawks were limited to one and dones very regularly while Westlund earned second chance opportunities for the Bearcats. Vallejo was the scorer down low for WF West, but thanks to Westlund the Bearcats fended off the rally.
Hockinson sees their season come to an end with a final record of 6-15. WF West advances to the double elimination portion of the district tournament and will take on Mark Morris on Saturday at 6pm.
Scoring
Hockinson: Ethan Hunt 19, Lucas Wray 16, Oliver Garner 13, Skylar Liddie 8, Kyle Alexander 7, Charlie Yadon 4
WF West: Carlos Vallejo 20, Weston Potter 13, Ross Kelley 12, Grady Westlund 9, Hayden Rooney 9, Gage Brumfield 8, Fox Rogerson 5, Cody Schwarz 3, Wyatt Hoffman 1
