Recaps
Semifinals
#3 Federal Way Eagles 9/15/18/14 – 56
#2 Lincoln (Tacoma) Abes 14/11/10/22 – 57
(Tacoma, WA) The Federal Way Eagles and Lincoln Abes have been two of the top ten teams in 3A all season long. They would meet at Mount Tahoma High School for what turned out to be a battle until the very last shot.
Lincoln jumped out to a 12-3 lead, with a big first quarter from Trey Collier, who had eight points in the opening frame. Federal Way closed the gap with a couple of baskets to make it a 14-9 lead with Lincoln out in front. The second quarter, was more controlled by the Eagles, as Federal Way outscored Lincoln 15-11, with six players scoring for them. Lincoln held a one-point lead at 25-24, as the Abes also had six scorers.
The third quarter was huge for Federal Way, as they outscored Lincoln 18-10, to take a seven-point lead, as the Eagles again used balanced scoring and fantastic defense. In the fourth, the Abes and Eagles traded clutch baskets down the stretch. Lincoln chipped away at Federal Way’s lead and eventually took the lead on two free throws from O’Shea Lamer with 20 seconds left. Federal Way had a chance to take the lead, and their shot rolled out, and time ran out as Lincoln won in a great finish 57-56.
Lincoln advances to the District Championship Game, on Saturday at 7:00 PM where they will face Auburn Mountainview. ESN will be streaming that game and you can watch it by going to our broadcast page.
Our Thorbeckes Game MVP went to Kasey Williams, who was all over the place defensively, and hit multiple clutch free throws down the stretch for the Abes to step up and help them get the win. Williams, is one of two upper classmen on Lincoln, who doesn’t have a senior on their team.
#12 Gig Harbor Tides 22/17/19/8 – 66
#1 Auburn Mountainview Lions 23/10/14/20 – 67
The Gig Harbor Tides have been playing some outstanding basketball in the last few weeks. The Auburn Mountainview Lions have been playing dominating basketball the entire season. The two teams collided for a tremendous District Semifinal from Mt. Tahoma High School, to see who would play Lincoln on Saturday.
The teams came out on fire in the first quarter, as both teams went over 20 points in the quarter, which featured Kolven Posey who had eight points in the quarter for the Lions, and for the Tides, Michael Masini had nine points including a buzzer-beating three-pointer. Gig Harbor continued their great offense, taking a 39-33 lead at the half.
Gig Harbor stormed out to a double digit lead after the third quarter, with a 58-47 lead, as the Tides had four players in double figures with Quentin Bockhorn, Ty Buchanan, Cole Browne, and Michael Masini leading the way. Auburn Mountainview in the fourth quarter slowly chipped away at the lead, with Sebastian Arius finding his stroke from beyond the arc, hitting a pair of threes to pull the Lions close. Arius took over the fourth quarter, and 8.7 seconds left in the game, made a basket plus the foul to tie the game at 66. Arius splashed in the free throw to give him 11 in the quarter, 24 in the game, and Auburn Mountainview a 67-66 lead. Gig Harbor’s shot went wide at the buzzer and the Lions won by one to go to the District Championship game.
Auburn Mountainview will face Lincoln in the District Championship game on Saturday on ESN at 7:00 PM.
Our Thorbeckes Game MVP went to Sebastian Arius of Auburn Mountainview. Arius was remarkable in the fourth quarter to get the Lions into the District title game, and led everyone with 24 points, and 11 in the fourth quarter.
#6 Prairie Falcons 12/9/11/21 – 53
#3 Federal Way Eagles 17/12/17/18 – 64
(Federal Way, WA) The Prairie Falcons and Federal Way Eagles met in the District Quarterfinals, in a winner to State game. The loser’s season wouldn’t be over but would face a loser out game on Tuesday.
The first and second quarters were very different from each other. The first quarter is where the offenses flexed their muscles. Federal Way had 17 points in the opening quarter, with six points from Brayden McVey, while Prairie had 12 points but was very balanced with their scoring. Each side had five different scorers in the first quarter.
Federal Way led 17-12 after the first, but in the second, Prairie came out of the gates, tying the game twice at 19 apiece and at 21. Prairie’s Malachi Patton had seven of the nine points for the Falcons, but Federal Way responded with an 8-0 run to close out the quarter and take a 29-21 lead at the half.
Federal Way’s defense was strong again in the third quarter, forcing some turnovers and Prairie to take difficult shots. The Falcons were able to get Carson Morningstar going, as the junior forward had eight points in the third. Federal Way’s Jacob Hurskin hit a pair of threes from nearly identical spots, which helped the Eagles have another 17-point quarter, and take a 46-32 lead going into the fourth.
Prairie’s offense shined in the fourth, with a 21-point quarter, and at one point made it a 52-45 ballgame. The Falcons had a couple of chances to continue to cut into the Federal Way lead. However, the Eagles found an answer every time they needed it, and relied on their experience from being to State nine straight times, to pull away at the end and get the 64-53 victory.
Federal Way has clinched their tenth straight trip to the State Tournament, and will face the #2 Lincoln Abes on Tuesday in the District Semifinals, from Mount Tahoma HS at 6:00 PM. ESN will have coverage of both District Semis on Tuesday, and coverage of that game will start at 5:45 PM.
Prairie will host #9 White River on Tuesday at 7:00 PM, in a loser out game. The winner of that game will have two tries to make the State Tournament.
Our Thorbeckes Game MVP went to Brayden McVey, as he led everyone in scoring, with 18 points, seven of them in the fourth quarter to help lead Federal Way.
Federal Way also had a big night from Saxon Niles with 16 points and numerous rebounds, Geron White had 10 points off the bench, Jacob Hurskin had 10 points, Marcel Jones had five points, Angelo Williams had three points and Justin Calcote had two points.
Prairie had Jamir Jones and Malachi Patton lead the way with 15 points each and all three of the Falcons threes between the two of them, Carson Morningstar had 14 points, Daniel Carbajal-Vargas had four points, Riley Burke had three points, and Ben Nkansah had two points.

Silas 68, Lakes 52 (Loser Out)
(Lakewood, WA) For the second time this season the Silas Rams and Lakes Lancers met on the hardwood as this time the Puget Sound League foes met in the District 3/4 3A boys basketball tournament. This time the stakes were even higher as the two teams met in a loser out game where someone’s season would come to an end.
Lakes would get off to the stronger start at home as the Lancers just simply shot the ball better in the early minutes of the game. Darius Imperial started the game with the hot hand for the Lancers as they slowly got things going in the paint. Silas would be able to respond and finished the opening quarter as the hotter team. Antione Vallarde-Larkins would get things going off the bench for the Rams while Hezekiah Wyatt hit a big three to wake up the Silas offense. It was a back-and-forth opening quarter but Lakes had the 13-12 lead after one.
The second quarter was more of the same for both sides. Lakes would get the difference maker from Bryce McCray who completed two and-ones to give him six points in the quarter. Darius Imperial continues to find success as he had 13 in the first half. Tyson Parker would then get going for Silas which helped them make a charge late in the quarter. A three for Parker and a buzzer beating lay-up for Vallarde-Larkins cut the Silas deficit but the Rams still trailed Lakes at halftime, 31-25.
Everything was turned upside down in the 3rd quarter which really decided this game. Silas began the quarter on a 15-0 run to turn their deficit into a lead and they also began to pull away. Lakes came out of the half ice cold and could not buy a basket. Lakes would not hit a field goal in the entire third quarter and only put up three points in the quarter, all coming from Jalen Boone free throws. Meanwhile, Silas was scorching the net as Makyah Tubig put up six points in the quarter and LaMarcus Hinton and Hezekiah Wyatt added on as well. Silas would outscore Lakes 24-3 in the quarter and the Rams took a 49-34 lead into the fourth.
Despite some hard charges by the Lancers, the third quarter disaster was too much to overcome. Khaleb Chisolm led the late charge with ten points in the fourth, but for every Lakes bucket Silas had a response. MakHai Pleasant-Tolliver was a monster in the final quarter for the Rams as he and Tyson Parker led the way in the final eight minutes. A big three for Parker and an exclamation point dunk for Pleasant-Tolliver put the finishing touches on things as Silas ended up with the 68-52 win to keep their season alive.
Our Thorbeckes MVP of the game went to Tyson Parker of Silas. The point guard was the quarterback for the Rams offense and also led the team with 15 points. Defensively, Parker was fantastic at cutting off Lakes driving lanes and also did a great job on the boards. It was a tough MVP award to give as Silas played such a well-balanced team game, but Parker was the leader of the team so he earned the nod.
Silas moves on to play Mountain View in another loser out game on Tuesday in Vancouver. Lakes has their season come to an end.
Scoring
Silas: Tyson Parker 15, LaMarcus Hinton 13, MakHai Pleasant-Tolliver 10, Hezekiah Wyatt 10, Antione Vallarde-Larkins 7, Zaire Winesberry 7, Makyah Tubig 6
Lakes: Darius Imperial 14, Khaleb Chisolm 13, Jalen Boone 12, Bryce McCray 6, Mikey Stroud 6, Aaron Miller 1
