(Seattle, WA)
The Seattle Kraken concluded a five game homestand with a 3-1 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Seattle records their third consecutive loss to fall 11 points back of the Vancouver Canucks for the final playoff spot in the west.
Toronto came into the evening on a two game win streak with wins in Western Canada. The Kraken were losers of their last two straight. The Leafs marked the return of goaltender Anthony Stolarz. The offseason acquisition had not played since December 12th due to a lower body injury. The Kraken started Joey Daccord for the Kraken for the fourth straight game. Seattle looked for some optimism against a Maple Leafs team they have never beaten at home.
The Leafs drew first blood when Philippe Myers cranked a shot from the right point past Joey Daccord at 7:23 of the opening period. Bobby McCann tipped in a power play goal at 18:53 of the first. Toronto led 2-0 into the first intermission.
Midway through the second period, Jake McCabe flung a shot from the right point. Matthew Knies grazed the ongoing puck past Joey Daccord, at 12:37 of the 2nd. The Leafs went into the dressing room up 3-0 at the 2nd intermission.
With the Leafs up by a field goal, the number one team in the Atlantic division had no problem limiting the struggling Kraken offense in the final period. Eeli Tolvanen went top shelf on Anthony Stolarz to spoil the shutout bid at 5:43 of the third.
In the end, the Maple Leafs continued their unbeaten streak in Seattle with a 3-1 win. Joey Daccord made 27 saves in the loss. Seattle forced Anthony Stolarz to make 26 saves.
The loss puts Seattle 11 points behind the Vancouver Canucks with the Four Nations Break approaching.
Up next: The Kraken play their last game before a near three week break, with a road trip to Calgary to take on the Flames. Puck drop is scheduled at 7pm on Hockey Night in Canada.
