Bellarmine Prep Lions  24/6/20/10 – 60
Silas Rams                          11/16/14/14 – 55

(Tacoma, WA) The Bellarmine Prep Lions are sitting at the top of the PSL-Narrows in a tie with the Lincoln Abes. If both teams win or if both teams lose on Friday night, they will face each other in a tiebreaker game at Mt. Tahoma. The Silas Rams are locked into the third seed for the PSL Tournament taking place next week, but a win could help their case for a better seed in the District Tournament. It was also senior night for the Rams, which features six seniors on the squad.

In the first quarter, Bellarmine Prep’s Ben Heisel couldn’t miss. Heisel hit four three-pointers and a two-point field goal to give him a whopping 14 points in the quarter. Bellarmine Prep made six threes in the first quarter, giving them a 24-11 lead after the first quarter.

In the second, Silas used tremendous defense to hold Bellarmine Prep to only six points in the quarter. The Rams offense also had a successful quarter, scoring 16 points and they used very balanced scoring. Silas had seven different players score in the first half to help them pull to within three points. Despite a single-digit quarter, Bellarmine Prep held a 30-27 lead at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, both teams traded baskets and it appeared the game would stay within a possession or two, until the end of the quarter, where Bellarmine Prep heated up and added to their lead. Birk Johnston had seven points, while Ronnie Wiggins hit a pair of threes for the Lions. Bellarmine Prep led 50-41 after three.

In the fourth quarter, Silas fell behind by double digits, but rallied back on senior night. The Rams made it a 56-55 game, when Gabe Gomez came off the bench and tossed in a short two-point shot to give the Lions a 58-55 lead with under half a minute to go. Bellarmine Prep knocked down two free throws to take the game 60-55.

With the win and Lincoln also winning, there will be a tiebreaker at Mt. Tahoma HS tonight at 6 PM to see who will be the first and second seeds out of the PSL-Narrows for the league tournament next week. Bellarmine Prep improves to 15-3 on the season and 15-1 in PSL action.

Silas drops down to 12-9 overall and 10-6 in league play. The Rams will be in the PSL tournament next week, where every team will play three games, and seven of the eight teams in the tournament will advance to the District Tournament.
