(Seattle, WA)

Brandon Montour ended a 20 game goalless drought and Chandler Stephenson tallied a goal and two assists as the Seattle Kraken ended a two game losing streak with a 6-2 win over the San Jose Sharks. The win put Seattle eight points out of the last playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Kraken were coming off losses against Pacific division foes Edmonton and Anaheim earlier in the week. Seattle earlier in the week placed goaltender Philipp Grubauer on waivers. After being unclaimed, Grubauer was sent down to Kraken AHL affiliate Coachella Valley. Grubauer on then year was 5-15-1 with a 3.83 GAA. The move allows Grubauer to earn playing time and reps with Coachella Valley during the 4 Nations Break. Joey Daccord got the start between the pipes for the Kraken. Yaroslav Askarov started for San Jose.

Seattle did not waste much time, Chandler Stephenson put the Kraken on the board first with a shot on the rush set up by Oliver Bjorkstrand. The goal at 3:55 of the first put the Kraken up 1-0. San Jose responded with a goal from Carl Grundstrom 14 minutes later, off a giveaway in the Kraken defensive end. The team went into the dressing room deadlocked at 1.

The 2nd period would see plenty of action. Oliver Bjorkstrand stashed a redirected shot from Vince Dunn to put the Kraken back in front with the goal at 2:03 of the 2nd. 51 seconds later, Seattle found the back of the net, again. Brandon Montour who had not scored in 20 games wristed a Shane Wright pass for the 2nd Kraken goal in under a minute. The play began with a steal from Wright that led to the goal from the Kraken d-man. Seattle was not done. Jaden Schwartz at the end of a San Jose power play buried his team leading 18th goal of the season to extend the lead to 4-1. The goal came at 5:58 of the 2nd period, which coerced the Sharks to pull goaltender Yaroslav Askarov for Alexandar Georgiev.

After two San Jose penalties, the Kraken capitalized on a two man advantage with the second goal of the game for Brandon Montour. The four goals came in a span of 5:49. Seattle led at the second break 5-1.

The third period saw San Jose score a goal from Tyler Toffoli at 8:06. Eeli Tolvanen answered for Seattle at 12:18 with his 15th of the season.

In the end, Seattle defeated San Jose 6-2, with Joey Daccord making 26 saves on 28 shots.

Up Next: Seattle hosts Calgary on Sunday with puck drop scheduled at 6pm. The Flames currently hold the final playoff spot in the west.
