(Seattle, WA)

Jaden Schwartz put on a show against the Los Angeles Kings Saturday night, his hat trick and Joey Daccord’s valiant carried the Seattle Kraken to a 4-2 win.

The Kraken came into the night coming off a five game road trip. The road trip was a mixed bag for the Kraken, blowout 6-2 losses to the Red Wings and Blue Jackets tapered optimism from victories against Buffalo and Pittsburgh. The final game of the road trip saw the Kraken play one of their best games on defense. But in the closing seconds, a Winnipeg Jets go-ahead goal scored by Dylan DeMelo ended Seattle’s hopes of ending the road trip on a high note. The Kraken started Joey Daccord who had won two of his last three starts. The Kings started Darcy Kuemper a winner in five of his last six starts.

Seattle broke out of the gate in a hurry when Kappo Kakko set up Jaden Schwartz 28 seconds in to put the Kraken on the board. The goal was Schwartz’s 14th of the season.

Los Angeles answered when Adrian Kempe scored on a power play goal on the doorstep in front of Joey Daccord at 6:07 of the period.

The Kraken responded with a resounding statement. Josh Mahura initiated a leveling hit on Warren Foegele, Jaden Schwartz wired his 15th goal of the year at 7:40 of the opening frame. Kappo Kakko registered a second assist in the game.

A wild first period had one last wrinkle. Jordan Spence blasted a shot from the right slot at 18:43 through traffic past Joey Daccord to level the game.

Seattle led in shots on goal 15-8, but the Kraken and Kings were leveled where it counted 2-2 after one.

Period number two started the way first did. Chandler Stephenson tipped an Oliver Bjorkstrand shot attempt at 1:37 of the period to put Seattle in front again.

The goal from Stephenson was the only goal of the period. Both teams accounted for six shots on goal, but Stephenson’s tip the only one that lit the lamp.

Seattle had played a solid 40 minutes, but they would more of the same to come away with two points.

The Kings began the third outshooting the Kraken 15-0, but Joey Daccord stood tall for Seattle. The Kraken only produced one shot the entire third period. It happened to be the one that put the game to rest. Jaden Schwartz completed the hat trick into an empty net for Seattle to put the game on ice. Kappo Kakko earned credit for his third assist of the night.

Joey Daccord made 26 saves including, 15 in the third period in a gritty win. Darcy Kuemper made 18 saves in the loss for the Kings.

Jaden Schwartz lauded his teammates after the game, and complimented his forward line that has been on fire as of late. With a win in the books, who is to know what will happen next with the Kraken.
