(Sumner, WA) Two winning streaks came to a collision on Thursday night when the Rogers Rams traveled to Sumner to take on the Spartans. A 2nd quarter barrage carried the home side to a 67-58 win to put the Spartans in a tie with Emerald Ridge for the 2nd spot in in the SPSL North.
Rogers was coming off three straight wins against SPSL South opponents, while Sumner rode into the evening winners of five consecutives games.
It was all Rams in the early stages of the first quarter. Treyshawn Weatherspoon strung multiple highlight reel plays for Rogers to mount a 11-3 Rams lead. Sumner responded in convincing fashion. Jalen Hyppa tallied four 3’s in the first half to supply Sumner with a 39-21 lead at the half.
Sumner would continue to pour it on in the third quarter, leading 55-35 at the end of the third. Rogers trimmed the deficit down to 6 at one point, but in the end Sumner hung on with with win 67-58.
Jalen Hyppa carried Sumner in the scoring department with four first half 3’s paving the way for 20 points on the evening. Treyshawn Weatherspoon was the star of the evening for Rogers with 16 points for the Rams including multiple highlight reel plays.
