Tumwater 62, Aberdeen 50

(Tumwater, WA) The host team Tumwater Thunderbirds got off to a fast start in the 1st half knocking down 18 in the 1st quarter and 20 in the 2nd 8-minutes building a 38-15 lead over the visiting Aberdeen Bobcats. Aberdeen’s Jhacob Quezada hit a 3 to begin each quarter but the T-Birds quickly got in the groove and were hitting from the inside and out.

Senior Jake Dillon was red hot from behind the arc sinking 6 3-balls scoring and 18 1st half points. Sophomore Luke Overbay got the start due to regular starter Bryce Morgan out sick. Overbay took advantage scoring 6 from long range himself and racking rebounds and blocked shot on defense.

Tumwater cooled off a touch in the 2nd half but still had plenty of room to control the outcome. The Bobcats Isaac Garcia heated up hitting a pair of 3’s and going 4-6 from the line scoring 13 of his 17 points in the 2nd half. Aberdeen outscored Tumwater 35-24 in the 2nd half but that big halftime deficit was too much to overcome. Quezada also finished in double figs with 16 for the Bobcats.

Dillon led the T-Birds with 20 points and Overbay added 10 but also had 5 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Overbay’s effort was good enough to earn our Thorbeckes MVP award of the game. Sophomore Julian Balsley got his first significant varsity time played well scoring 6 and picking off 3 boards.

Tumwater improved to 3-1 in EVCO 2A play and 9-3 overall and will next face Battle Ground on Monday in an MLK showcase at Lower Columbia College. Aberdeen is now 2-2 in league play and 3-7 overall. The Bobcats will host Hoquiam on Monday in a non-league match-up.
