Playoff football is officially here and we are off and running with the second edition of Professor DW’s Postseason Tournament. A total of 19 people qualified for the postseason tournament but four did not get an entry in and will be sitting with zero points moving into the divisional round. Still, 15 entrants all took their shot at predicting the Wild Card Weekend slate with the bonus questions.

There were a couple of upsets in the first week of the playoffs as the Houston Texans defeated the LA Chargers while the other LA team in the Rams embarrassed the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. Surprisingly, 10 people correctly predicted the Rams win but only two correctly chose Houston to knock off the Chargers. Only one entrant picked Pittsburgh and that same entrant was the only one to pick Green Bay as well. Washington over Tampa Bay was only picked by seven contestants as well. Nobody went 6 for 6 on the games themselves.

For the bonus questions, it was slim pickings for the predictions. No a single entrant got the most points by a team right or the most passing yards out of the listed quarterbacks. Houston actually scored the most points with 32 while Tampa Bay, Washington and Minnesota were the most picked teams by our entrants. CJ Stroud narrowly beat out Josh Allen for most passing yards as Stroud’s 282 was just ahead of Allen’s 272. Baker Mayfield was by far the most popular pick but he only threw for 185 yards in the Bucs loss.

Wes Swick, Skip Smith, both Jeff Johnson’s (yes there are two of them), and Alicia Clark correctly guessed five home teams would win out of the six games played. While the game was moved to Arizona, the LA Rams were still the home team which bumped that number up from the popular pick of four. 20 field goals were successful this week which gave those that picked 19+ a point. The three makes on Monday night earned Stephen Gruginski, Roy Clark, Mark Westley, one of the Jeff Johnson’s, and Lee Stockwell a point.

Down below you can see the current standings for the postseason tournament. Jeff Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Mark Westley, and Roy Clark are currently in a four-way tie for first place. However everyone is still very close as this will be a war of attrition throughout the entirety of the playoffs.

The Divisional Weekend entry form is up now so make sure to get your picks in before Saturday’s deadline of 9am. Best of luck this week!
