Friday night the North Thurston Rams hosted the Silas Rams in a girls/boys varsity double header. ESN was there with full coverage of both games. The girls story is first followed by the boys story. Below that will be the postgame shows and video highlights.

Girls Game
North Thurston 79, Silas 24

North Thurston raced out to a 20-0 lead and never looked back. Leading scorer Soraya Ogaldez hit 14 of her 35 points in the opening 8 minutes with Shayla Cordis scoring the other 6. Silas’s Sisalee Miller hit a late 3 to get them on the board.

The lopsided score was a bit misleading as Silas did well in the paint with rebounds led by Carmayla Jackson but they just couldn’t get any of their close in shots to fall. That would be an issue they could never resolve.

Meantrime, N-T kept shooting and scoring running their lead to 47-10 at halftime. Then when the 3rd quarter began about 15 seconds into the 3rd Grace Lee drained a 3 to kick in the running clock for the remainder of the game leading 60-17 after 3 and the final 79-24 score.

7 players scored for North Thurston led by Ogaldez with 35, Cordis finished with 20 and Lee had 11. Miller hit for 11 as the only Silas player to hit double figures.

Our Thorbeckes MVP award went to Olgadez with Cordis getting serious consideration. Grace Lee, Kaylin Henderson and Patricia Egrubay all had solid games as well for N-T.

North Thurston is now 10-1 for the season and hosts Lakes on Tuesday. Silas drops to 5-8 and travels to Capital on Wednesday.

Scoring
North Thurston: Soraya Olgadez 35, Shayla Cordis 20, Grace Lee 11, Patricia Egrubay 5, Kaylin Henderson 4, Lily Schneider 2, Macie Koval 2
Silas: Sisalee Miller 11, Niya Allen 4, Kylie Duesterbeck 3, Emerie Kennedy 2, Jordin Pinkett 2, Carmayla Jackson 2

Boys Game
Silas 58, North Thurston 42

The Silas Rams had finally edged away in the 1st quarter with a 14-7 lead and just seconds to play when the North Thurston Ram’s Liam Sheeran hit a 3 and got fouled and completed the 4 point play cutting the lead to just 3 after the 1st quarter.

Silas would again pull away in the 2nd quarter in a low scoring battle. LaMarcus Hinton led Silas with 8 halftime points as they locked down N-T holding them to just 6 points with seconds to play when N-T did it again. Just before the horn blew for halftime Micah Anderson drained a 3 to cut the lead to 6 at the break.

North Thurston again hit a late 3 in the 3rd quarter on a Jorden Walker long ball to stay within 6 but left time for Silas to respond and MakHai Pleasant-Tolliver drove the length of floor and drew a foul sinking both free throws to lead by 8 after 3 quarters.

In the 4th quarter Silas’s consistency was too much as they pushed their lead to double digits. Silas spread the scoring with 9 players scoring and 4 in double figures. Hinton led with 11 points while Pleasant-Tolliver, Tyson Parker and Antione Vallarde-Larkins all had 10.

All 4 could have been named our Thorbeckes MVP but we went with Pleasant-Tolliver whose defense and rebounding while scoring from the outside and inside and from the line for the all-around effort.

Micah Anderson for North Thurston led all scorers with 15 and Kurt Cavalier added 10.

Silas improved to 8-5 on the season and snapped a 3 game losing streak. Silas will host Capital next Wednesday. N-T dropped to 6-7 and will try to break their own 3 game losing streak at Lakes on Monday.

Scoring
Silas: LaMarcus Hinton 11, Tyson Parker 10, MakHai Pleasant-Tolliver 10, Antione Vallarde-Larkins 10, Keiondre Baldwin 7, Cameron Cherry 4, Zaire Winesberry 2, Jaxen Lofton 2, Hezekiah Wyatt 2
North Thurston: Micah Anderson 15, Kurt Cavalier 10, Liam Sheeran 8, Jorden Walker 5, Sebastian Galvan 4
