(Sumner, WA) SPSL Powerhouses collided in Sumner Wednesday evening, where the Emerald Ridge Jaguars faced the Sumner Spartans in a battle of (4-0) teams in the SPSL North. Thanks to Olivia Collins’ 24 points and Kawehi Borden’s all around 16 point effort, Sumner continued their red hot start to the season with a 69-41 victory over Emerald Ridge.

The Spartans came into the evening off a road win against 4-time defending 3A State Champion Garfield. The win for Sumner is part of a difficult nonleague schedule that included facing Lakeside (Seattle) and a future battle against 3A powerhouse Lake Washington on Martin Luther King Day. Emerald Ridge will head up to Lynden Christian for a post-Christmas tournament where they will face Issaquah in day 1 of 3 of next week’s tournament. Emerald Ridge also will face 2A Kingpin Ellensburg on Martin Luther King Day.

Sumner began the game outpacing Emerald Ridge from the outset. Olivia Collins started the game making two free throws after Emerald Ridge was accessed a technical for an error in the scorebook. Sumner took a 19-9 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to shooting from Kessa Nohr from beyond the arc. Nohr’s two threes set the tone for Sumner on the evening. Raymiah Jackson highlighted Emerald Ridge’s output in the 1st quarter with 5 points.

The second quarter saw Emerald Ridge and Sumner seesaw with Naleila Cammack highlighting the Jaguar offense. Cammack scored 7 points each half for ER. Kawehi Borden led Sumner in scoring in the first half with 9 points. Sumner at the half was in front 27-18.

The second half turned into the Olivia Collins show, Collins scored 17 of her game high 24 points in the final 20 minutes. Sumner pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring ER 24-13. Semaj Williams scored all 10 of her points in the second half for Emerald Ridge.
