RALEIGH, N.C. — Jaden Schwartz and Yanni Gourde led the Seattle Kraken to a 4-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday at Lenovo Center, ending Seattle’s three-game losing streak.
Schwartz and Gourde each contributed a goal and an assist, while Brandon Tanev and Eeli Tolvanen added goals for the Kraken (12-13-1), who had dropped four of their last five games. Matty Beniers chipped in with two assists, and Joey Daccord made 16 saves in net.
For the Hurricanes (16-8-1), Martin Necas had a goal and an assist, and Eric Robinson also scored. Goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov, returning after a four-game absence due to a concussion, stopped 24 shots. Carolina has now lost three straight games and five of its last seven.
The game started with fireworks, as Schwartz opened the scoring just 19 seconds into the first period. Taking a pass from Gourde, Schwartz split the Hurricanes’ defense and fired a shot past Kochetkov’s blocker to give Seattle a 1-0 lead.
Carolina responded at 4:56 when Necas intercepted a clearing attempt and set up Robinson, who spun to his forehand and slid the puck inside the left post to tie it at 1-1.
Seattle regained the lead early in the second period. At 5:56, Tolvanen capitalized on a rebound after Kochetkov stopped Oliver Bjorkstrand’s initial shot, making it 2-1 Kraken.
Necas brought the Hurricanes level again at 5:43 of the third period with a power-play goal, slipping a backhander through Daccord’s five-hole off a feed from Sebastian Aho.
However, the Kraken quickly regained momentum. Gourde scored the go-ahead goal at 10:48, knocking in a centering pass at the top of the crease to put Seattle up 3-2.
Tanev sealed the victory at 15:03 with a breakaway backhander, securing the 4-2 final and snapping Seattle’s losing streak.
The Hurricanes will look to rebound in their next matchup, while the Kraken aim to build on this confidence-boosting win.
Next up: Game 2 of the Kraken’s 4 game road trip will head on Long Island where they take on the New York Islanders (9-10-7) puck drop 4:30 pm Eastern.
