More history was made in week 13 of Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge. The winner this week posted a perfect week in a full 16 game slate in the NFL. With no teams on a bye and games starting earlier on Thanksgiving, nothing could slow down Lee Stockwell who dominated the competition from start to finish. After losing in the tiebreaker last week and finishing third, Lee came back with a vengeance becoming the very first contestant to post a perfect week.
The race for second was much more intense as many had strong weeks. Jeff Johnson, Alicia Clark, Skip Smith, and Mark Westley all finished with 14 correct picks, sending us to the tiebreaker. With a full slate of games there were plenty of points scored before a high-scoring shootout on Monday night. The Cleveland and Denver matchup pushed the point total all the way up to 775. Alicia Clark was the only one involved in the tiebreaker to guess in the 700s and her guess of 727 was well below the total. That netted Alicia second place in week 13.
The win for Lee was his second win of the season and his lone second place finish of the year means he takes up three spots in the postseason tournament. Alicia won in week 8 so she also blocks another potential entrant into the postseason tournament. We are down to just 10 more opportunities to qualify for the postseason tournament with only five weeks left in the NFL season. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.
Thanksgiving was not a strong week for the Professor but still got to double digits with 11. With no wins since week 1 of last season, DW is in extreme danger of losing his title of “Professor” if he doesn’t clean up his act.
There was not a single game that stood out amongst the rest in terms of upsets. Both the Chargers and Steelers tied for the least picked upset of the week, but both had exactly half of the contestants correctly select those teams. With a week with very few upsets, it makes one wonder if week 14 could be a wild ride across the league.
