HS Football: Okanogan and Napavine Set for 2B Championship Game Round 3

The WIAA State Football Semifinals were all contested on Saturday and in this post we cover the 2B games. Re-caps, our MVP’s, postgame shows and highlights are included as Eli Sports covered all 12 of the Semifinal games.

WIAA 2B Bracket

#3 Napavine 23, #2 Asotin 8

(Richland, WA) The battle of the big cats saw a scoreless first quarter at Fran Rich Stadium. It was a Karsen Denault pick six with 1:32 to play that ended the drought and gave Napavine the 8-0 halftime lead. A strong fifteen point 3rd quarter pushed the Napavine lead to 23-0. Asotin quarterback Cody Ells ran in a 1 yard Touchdown and the 2 point try was good for the Panthers only score of the game. Napavine gets the win 23-8 and gets to the title game for the 4th year in a row. They will play Okanogan in the Championship game for a 3rd straight year with the Title game series currently tied 1-1. Asotin finishes the Season with an 11-1 record. Napavine’s Colin Shields was named Thorbeckes’ MVP.

#1 Okanogan 36, #5 Freeman 26

(Wenatchee, WA) The Okanogan Bulldogs are looking to defend their 2B State Title from last year but the Freeman Scotties weren’t gonna roll over and just hand them an easy win. Freeman took an early 7-o lead but Okanogan answered and ended the first quarter up 8-7. The Scotties took a 14-8 lead in the second quarter but again the Bulldogs countered and took a 16-14 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs added a couple of Touchdowns in the 3rd quarter for a 30-14 lead. Freeman outscored Okanogan 12-6 in the fourth quarter but came up short falling to the Bulldogs 36-26. Freeman finishes the season with a record of 10-2. Okanogan has round 3 with Napavine who the beat 28-24 in last years Championship game at Huskies Stadium. Napavine beat Okanogan in 2022 when the title game was played at Harry Lang Stadium.
