What a wild, upset filled week in the NFL! Week 12 of Professor DW’s Pick ’em Challenge also came down to the wire despite the slate looking pretty boring and a lot of blowouts on the horizon. Three contestants pushed their way to 10 points as Jeff Johnson, Lee Stockwell, and Skip Smith all hit the double-digit mark, meaning that the tiebreaker was needed yet again.

It was a lighter week of games due to six teams having a bye week but the total points scored was actually high due to some high scoring games. However, both Lee and Skip overshot the point total of 620. Skip was actually the closes to the exact point total, but his guess of 625 was over which allowed Jeff to sneak in with a guess of 539. That would net Jeff the victory and since Lee was also over with a guess of 651, Skip would take second in this week’s contest.

For the second time in the last three weeks, Jeff takes home the win and also blocks another spot in the postseason tournament. Jeff has finished in the top two in three different weeks and occupies three of the spots for the postseason tournament. Skip also finished in the top two for the third time on the year, so no new entrants qualified for the postseason tournament this week. Just 12 opportunities remain to gain entry into the postseason tournament with 18 entrants already in. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.

Professor DW actually had a solid week after his abysmal performance in week 11. DW put together a 9-point week which still wasn’t enough for the win. Performances like this week reminds me of Mike McCarthy. He does enough to keep his job but doesn’t do enough to be considered “good”.

In a week full of upsets, one stood out above the rest. Not a single entrant picked the Tennessee Titans to defeat the Houston Texans in an AFC South upset. Houston continues to struggle as their momentum from last season seems to be fading late in the season. Darin Arthur and Nick Rice were the only two to correctly choose Dallas over Washington in another sizable upset.

Week 13’s contest is up. Due to Thanksgiving games, the deadline to get your entry in is 9am on Thursday. Congratulations Jeff and Skip and best of luck to everyone this week.
