(Seattle, WA) Joey Daccord saved all 24 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over Nashville. The win marks the fifth win in six games in the homestand with a trip to Los Angeles and Anaheim looming for Seattle.
The Kraken were coming off a Sunday night loss to the Rangers after a shutout from netminder Jonathan Quick. The Predators recently ignited a five goal explosion against the Vancouver Canucks, a concept that so far this season seemed foreign to the Predators. Nashville came into the night second to last in the NHL overall league standings. This comes as a staunch surprise after the Predators seized prized free agent acquisitions in Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei. The additions up to this point have proved to provide very little help in the early stages of the season.
The game began inauspiciously with Nashville being accessed a bench minor for bringing on the wrong starting lineup. Nashville recorded Filip Forsberg as the starting center as they often do. When the Predators starters took the ice for the anthem, Steven Stamkos went on the ice to play the role of center. This caught the attention of the Kraken video staff who alerted the officials. 43 seconds was all it took for Nashville to be accessed a bench minor.
Seattle outshot Nashville 10-6 in the first period, with no goals to show.
Period number two saw Nashville had more scoring opportunities compared to Seattle 13-2 early in the frame. Seattle would seize momentum after a penalty by Jonathan Marchessault for tripping Jaden Schwartz at 7:08 of the period. Seattle turned the period around with controlling the pace of play. In the end Seattle outshot Nashville 17-8 in the second period. The highlight of the period saw Chandler Stephenson dish a pass to the left slot to an open Daniel Sprong. The newly acquired Kraken from the Vancouver Canucks potted his first goal with the Kraken on the year at 15:55 of the middle period. The Kraken led 1-0 after two.
The third period began in a flash, defenseman Brandon Montour joined an offensive rush, to tip in an insurance goal at 0:23 of the period. Chandler Stephenson earned credit for the assist, as he did for Sprong’s goal. About the goal, Stephenson said once Montour broke the blue line, it was apparent he wanted the puck. Seattle’s two prized free agent additions combined for the goal.
Yanni Gourde added an empty net goal to cement the Kraken win at 17:17 of the final period.
The Kraken shutout Nashville 3-0, with Joey Daccord notching his fourth career shutout, his first since the 2024 NHL Winter Classic. Jusse Saros in defeat made 33 saves in the loss.
Chandler Stephenson assisted on all three of Seattle’s goals with Jaden Schwartz chipping in on the last two Seattle light lampers.
The win caps off an impressive homestand by the Kraken, winning five of six games, with the lone loss coming against a New York Rangers team playing with a red hot Jonathan Quick.
