11/19/24

We are already in week 11 of Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge and while the Professor continues to search for his first win of the season, this week’s contest came down to the wire. Sunday night’s game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers cut the race for the win down to four with the Chargers avoiding a huge collapse to earn the win. That meant Trent Twamley, Bob Kickner, Kevin Hamrick, and Mike Lowder would all go into Monday night tied at 11.

Now, nobody in their right mind would pick the Dallas Cowboys to defeat the Houston Texans and the Texans took care of the Cowboys to put our four leaders at 12 and bring the tiebreaker into effect. It was a high scoring week across the league with a total of 655 points being scored. Mike went low again with 47 points but since the other three didn’t guess over, he was eliminated. Trent’s guess of 474 would not get the job done and Bob and Kevin each had a guess within 10 points of one another. Bob’s 638 beat out Kevin’s 628 to earn Bob his first victory of the season.

Bob earned wins last season but had not qualified for the postseason tournament until this week. Bob’s 12 doubles the Professor’s score for the week as well. Kevin punched his ticket to the postseason tournament as well as his second-place finish brings the total number of postseason qualifiers to 18 with still seven weeks remaining. That means 14 spots are still up for grabs but those that have already qualified can still block out open spots by finishing in the top two in any of the last seven weeks. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.

It was one of the worst performances by the Professor in history as his six points were the fewest out of EVERY SINGLE ENTRANT in week 11. We are honestly ashamed of the performance by the Professor who might have his identity revealed if he doesn’t step it up. At this rate, the Professor’s dream of being an NFL owner will never come to fruition.

For once, the heavy Seahawk fanbase did not have much faith in their team and that led to Seattle’s win over San Francisco being the upset of the week. Only three contestants chose Seattle to pull off a season saving win over the 49ers thanks to a late Geno Smith touchdown run. That win keeps the NFC West the most chaotic division in the NFL.

Week 12’s contest is up and make sure you get your entry in before 4pm on Thursday. Congratulations Bob and Kevin and best of luck to everyone this week.
