(Seattle, WA)
The Seattle Kraken played their third game in four days and second in back to back days. The Kraken faced the Original Six New York Rangers after defeating the Islanders the previous day 3-2. Rangers goalkeeper Jonathan Quick shutout Seattle 2-0.
Philip Grubauer marked his return into the starter’s cage after missing over a week with an injury he suffered while at his house. The Rangers started three time Stanley Cup Champion Jonathan Quick in net.
The first period saw no goals, with Philip Grubauer turning away all eight Rangers shots he saw. The Kraken although they had a late power play to close out the period, could not generate offense on their six shots.
The middle frame saw more of the same until the 17:30 mark when Artemi Panarin found Alexei Lafrenière parked all alone on the right post for a tip-in to put the Rangers up 1-0.
Seattle outshot the Rangers 10-6, but it was New York that led where it counts 1-0.
2:58 into the final period New York scored again with Zac Jones putting a shot through the arm of Philip Grubauer to give the Rangers insurance 2-0.
In the end Seattle was not able to solve Jonathan Quick all night as the Rangers shutout the Kraken 2-0.
Jonathan Quick saved all 24 shots he saw, while Philip Grubauer saved 21 of 23 Rangers shots.
Kraken Bench Boss Dan Bylsma remarked both goalies made great saves and gave their side a chance to win the game.
Seattle’s record dropped to 9-9-1. The Kraken stand one point away from a playoff spot.
Up Next: The Kraken close out their homestand in front of a national television audience on Wednesday. The Nashville Predators will invade Climate Pledge Arena with puck drop scheduled a little after 7:00.
