Senior year night brings an outpouring of many emotions. The night celebrates four years of effort put on display for one final match to close out a career in front of the home faithful. The Federal Way Eagles Girl’s Soccer team closed out their season with a 4-2 win over Kent-Meridian.
The win capped off a series sweep for Federal Way over Kent-Meridian after FW won an earlier match in October at French Field 2-0.
The first goal came in the 23rd minute when Victoria Leung took a long range shot from 30 yards out to beat Kent-Meridian Aisha Hussein to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Azenet Villegas-Salmeron tallied a penalty kick goal in the 27th minute to extend the lead for Federal Way to 2-0. Kira Marshall three minutes later scored the third goal for Federal Way to up the lead to 3-0. The Eagles scored three goals in seven minutes.
The teams went into the locker room with the hometown up 3-0.
The second half saw Kent-Meridian make their push. Julissa Gomez Vazquez scored on the breakaway in the 54th minute to put Kent-Meridian on the board. Seven minutes later, Abbi Strand scored from the penalty spot to cut the deficit to one.
In the end, Federal Way finished the match with a stoppage time goal from Marina Velasco-Bono to cement a 4-2 win for Federal Way.
The Eagles finished the season 4-12, while Kent-Meridian closed out the season at 1-15.
