Four years ago, Decatur’s Girl’s Soccer Program went 1-7. Who would have imagined the turnaround the program would have now. Led by four-year senior Vanessa Garcia’s goal two minutes in, Decatur cruised to a 3-0 win on their senior night as they prepare for the postseason.
Decatur had already sewn up the NPSL Title with a record of 14-1 coming into the night. White River came into the match locked in 3rd place in the league with a mark of 11-2-2.
The Golden Gators wasted no time. After a foul from outside the penalty area, Vanessa Garcia two minutes in scorched a shot past White River keeper Natalie Long to put the Golden Gators up 1-0. Kaihea Tuifua continued to pour it on for Decatur with a goal in the 19th minute on a breakaway to put Decatur up 2-0 going into halftime.
In the second half, Tuifua set up for a freekick on the right wing, her attempt went off the crossbar where Juliana Delucio was to put away the rebound to put Decatur up 3-0.
White River saw strong efforts from Charlotte Weber, Adalyn Sykes, and Belle Knauss, but Decatur came away with the win.
Decatur finishes the regular season at 15-1, while White River finishes the regular season with an overall record of 11-3-3.
