We have history for Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge! For the first time ever a contestant nailed the point total…AND won the entire week! Both Alicia Clark and Jennifer Kickner entered Monday night tied at 11 points and with every contestant picking the Pittsburgh Steelers to defeat the New York Giants, it would come down to how many points were scored in the final game of week 8.

After Sunday, a total of 733 points had been scored which tied week 1 for the highest scoring week in the NFL this season with still a game to go. Jennifer Kickner guessed 646 total points while Alicia Clark guessed 777. Alicia needed at least 44 points to be eligible to win or her guess would be over and give Jennifer the victory. With the score 9-9 at halftime, things looked good for Jennifer, but 19 points came in the final quarter to give the Steelers the 26-18 win, hitting 44 points exactly and giving Alicia a historic win.

In a new addition to Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge this season, if the winner hits the points exact then they double their money which means Alicia will win $50 for the week and go down in Professor DW history. Both Alicia and Jennifer also qualify for the postseason tournament which now has 14 different contestants with 20 more opportunities available. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.

For once, the Professor actually had a strong week, also earning 12 points with Alicia and Jennifer but his guess of 670 points would not matter with Alicia getting it dead on. It is nice to see the Professor actually have a good week and show that he sometimes actually knows a thing or two about football and isn’t just blindly picking teams based on which logo looks cooler.

Week 8 had quite a few upsets that not many saw coming. In the least picked upset of the week, the New England Patriots took down the “new” New York Jets on a late touchdown. Only ESN’s own Danny DeBock correctly selected that outcome. In other notable upsets, only two picked the Cleveland Browns to upset the Baltimore Ravens while four predicted the Los Angeles Rams to beat the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.

Next week’s contest is up and make sure you get your entry in before 4pm on Thursday. Congratulations Alicia and Jennifer and best of luck to everyone this week.
