10/22/24
One week after a heavy load of favorites taking home wins in the NFL, there were some tough 50/50 games across the league and a few upsets. Things really came down to the wire with another doubleheader for Monday Night Football. With 15 games in the NFL this week, two entrants separated themselves after Sunday’s slate.
Stephen Gruginski and Skip Smith entered Monday night with 12 points. Both chose Baltimore and Los Angeles to earn the wins and they were guaranteed the top two spots after the Ravens win. The Chargers would lose on a last second field goal so they both finished with 13 points which sent us to the tiebreaker.
There was not much separation between Stephen and Skip’s guesses as Stephen went with 642 while Skip went with 650. The total points would end up being 665 after one Monday night game was high scoring and the other was a defensive battle. The 665 total gives Skip the win this week, making him the first two-time winner of the contest this season and blocking out another spot in the postseason tournament.
I was prepared to say that the Professor had a respectable week, but going 0-2 on Monday changed that. DW’s 8 points this week would be well below the average score for week 7. If we had to compare the Professor to an actual NFL team, we would probable have to call them the Dallas Cowboys.
Skip earns the $25 cash plus an ESN T-Shirt or Polo and blocks out an entry into the exclusive postseason tournament. Stephen however does qualify for the postseason tournament with a second-place finish. The entrant pool for the postseason is now at 12 with 22 opportunities still available. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.
Now remember, winners can keep winning, you don’t get another post season tournament entry but you do prevent someone from getting in increasing your chances to win. So even if you win you want to keep playing to try and limit the number of finalists. Skip Smith and Katie King are the only two contestants that have finished in the top two in multiple weeks so it is still anyone’s game for the postseason.
In the least picked upset of the week the locals seem to have abandoned their team. Only four entrants correctly selected the Seattle Seahawks to go to Atlanta and take down the Falcons in the battle of the birds. Before this week, Seattle had been one of the most picked winners each and every week. That Seattle-Atlanta game would be one of two missed games from both Skip and Stephen with the other one being the Cardinals over the Chargers.
Next week’s contest is up and make sure you get your entry in before 4pm on Thursday. Congratulations Skip and Stephen and best of luck to everyone this week.
