Timberline 3, Peninsula 2 (23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 23-25, 15-6)

(Lacey, WA) The Timberline Blazers came into the match with Peninsula with an 8-3 league mark in 2nd place by 1 game over Capital who were over facing undefeated North Thurston. This was a great chance for the Blazers to extend their lead over the Cougars unless Capital could pull off a stunning upset. Meantime, the Peninsula Seahawks were eager to get back to 500 as they sat at 5-6. Capital did not pull the stunner dropping in straight sets to the Rams.

Timberline began with a big lead in the 1st set only to see a resiliant Seahawk squad rally to win it 25-23. Peninsula then kept up that momentum with a big early lead in the 2nd set but it was Timberline’s turn to come from behind and did so winning it 26-24 to even the match.

The Blazers then went up 2-1 with a 25-22 win after almost blowing an early 9 point lead. The Seahawks would tie it at 22-22 before Timberline closed it out with 3 straight points. Timberline then came back in the 4th looking to close out the match and again built a big lead of 6 but Peninsula would not give in and came storming back to win 25-23 forcing a final set 5.

The Blazers jumped out early and this time never let their foot off the gas pedal and stretched out their lead to win 15-6 and take the match 3-2. Timberline improves  to 9-3 while Peninsula takes this tough loss and drops to 5-7. It doesn’t get easier for the Hawks as they will host unbeaten North Thurston on Thursday. Timberline will travel to Lakes on Thursday.

Our Eli Sports Network dot com MVP went to the Blazers Destiny Mars. This was a close decision with Kinley Smith right there. Timberline also got big efforts from Jovie Lind, Eseta Tauiliili and Emyah Riley.

Had Peninsula pulled off the upset we would have gone with Ziah Sneva who was spectacular in this match. Others to be considered included Kate Cardinal, Sarah Hurn and Leah Schmidt.
