SEATTLE — Jared McCann had a goal and two assists, helping the Seattle Kraken fend off a late rally from the Philadelphia Flyers to secure a 6-4 victory at Climate Pledge Arena on Thursday.
Shane Wright and Jordan Eberle each contributed a goal and an assist, while Andre Burakovsky added two assists for the Kraken (3-2-0), who were coming off a 7-3 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Goalie Philipp Grubauer made 21 saves.
Scott Laughton led the Flyers (1-2-1) with two goals and an assist, while Garnet Hathaway and Ryan Poehling each had a pair of assists.
The Flyers took an early 1-0 lead when Laughton scored at 4:21 of the first period, capitalizing on a rebound off the end boards. However, Seattle tied it at 18:15, thanks to Brandon Montour’s first goal as a Kraken. Montour signed a seven-year, $50 million contract with Seattle in July.
Laughton put the Flyers back on top less than a minute later, but McCann equalized early in the second period with a power-play goal, beating Fedotov with a quick snap shot.
Eeli Tolvanen’s rebound goal at 14:57 gave the Kraken a 3-2 lead, and Seattle extended it to 5-2 with goals just eight seconds apart from Eberle and Wright late in the period.
Cam York and Jamie Drysdale scored in the third period for Philadelphia, pulling the Flyers within one, but Oliver Bjorkstrand sealed the win for Seattle with a breakaway goal at 14:52.
History
Eberle and Wright’s goals marked the fastest two goals in Kraken history at eight seconds apart. Forward Chandler Stephenson played in his 500th NHL game, logging 20:22 of ice time.
