(Lakewood, WA)

Peninsula came into Harry E. Lang Stadium with an undefeated league record (8-0) and ranked number 1 in the 3A RPI. Lakes had a 6-1-1 PSL-Nisqually record and #9 in the 3A RPI. The Lancers lone league loss was a 5-4 loss at Peninsula on September 26th.

Lakes wanted to set the tone early, getting a shot on goal less than a minute into the match. Peninsula keeper Brooklyn Finch made 3 big saves early in the first half with Zarra Kelly having the best attempt for Lakes. Once the Seahawks settled in their counters and speed started to swing the momentum their way. A great slide in the box by Lakes senior defender Maya Stephens put an end to a promising Seahawks run in the 15th minute. Peninsula had another chance in the 28th off a corner kick. This time it was Braelyn Carey that held position on the back post and made the play to keep the match even at zeros.

Halftime Lakes 0, Peninsula 0

The second half saw an uptick in pace and physicality. Ten minutes into the second half Lakes earned a corner that was well placed by Carey. The ball would bounce around the 6 yard box and lead to a shot but Brooklyn Finch was there to make a play. Less than a minute later Lakes got the opening goal with Braelyn Carey floating a pass to Grace Hanna for the 1-0 Lancer lead. Peninsula answered just 3 minutes later on a nice shot through traffic by junior forward Maya Rogers. The Seahawks took the lead in the 59th minute on a shot from Nora Sutherland after a missed clearance by the Lancers. Lakes wasn’t gonna lose another one goal game to Peninsula. In stoppage time Braelyn Carey got free in the middle of the field. This time Carey connected with Angela Saldana who one timed the equalizer home for the 2-2 final score.
