If there was one week to lean heavy on the favorites, it was this week. The favorites went 12-2 in the NFL in week 6 which led to some very good showings in Professor DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge. Six contestants entered Monday night’s game between Buffalo and New York with 12 games correct which meant they had all only missed one game in week 6 with one game to go. Katie King, Lee Stockwell, Stephen Gruginski, and Carter Fabritius all chose Buffalo while Matt Evans and Nathan Sampson would be the two to pick the New York Jets.
With Buffalo earning the 23-20 win, that took Matt and Nathan out of the running for first and second place. It came down to the points tiebreaker for Katie, Lee, Stephen, and Carter and it was a very bizarre result. The total points scored this week was 689 which eliminated both Lee and Stephen who were both close with their guesses of 701 and 698, but since both were over they would just miss out on the top two. Katie made sure to not go low with a guess of 355 and Carter’s guess of 667 would net the win.
While most had a very good week, the Professor once again flopped. DW ended up with just 8 points to keep the losing streak alive. Seriously, this guy is just not knowledgeable about football.
ESN does their own in-house version of DW’s picks and for the first time ever, there was a perfect week! Matthew King nailed all 14 games in what might be the most impressive display of football knowledge that we have ever seen at ESN. Maybe he should be the Professor and we can get rid of this other guy that can’t tell the difference between his left and his right.
Carter earns the $25 cash plus an ESN T-Shirt or Polo as well as entry into the exclusive postseason tournament. Katie has already qualified for the postseason tournament so she played defense this week by taking another spot from a potential competitor. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.
Now remember, winners can keep winning, you don’t get another post season tournament entry but you do prevent someone from getting in increasing your chances to win. So even if you win you want to keep playing to try and limit the number of finalists. Katie became the first competitor to finish either 1st or 2nd multiple times this year, so the entrant pool is currently at 11 for the playoffs.
In the least picked upset of the week where there wasn’t a big upset, 16 people correctly picked the Los Angeles Chargers to defeat the Denver Broncos. The bye week seemed to do plenty of good for the Chargers as they picked up a much needed win.
Next week’s contest is up and make sure you get your entry in before 4pm on Thursday. Congrats Carter and Katie and best of luck to everyone this week.
