HS Football: River Ridge Pulls Off Three Point Win Over Capital

River Ridge Hawks 38, Capital Cougars 35

(Lacey, WA) The Capital Cougars and River Ridge Hawks are in a battle in the Puget Sound League Nisqually Division and a big game on Thursday night could help decide who wins the division at the end of the year.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair as River Ridge’s Hayden Jacquet scored from 11 yards out to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead. Capital responded with a 66-yard touchdown with Lucas Redman finding Hunter Sayre to tie the game at seven. River Ridge would get a field goal and Capital would get another TD with Redman finding Sayre again, this time for 31 yards to give Capital a 13-10 lead. Darrian Harper hit Kaden Haggard for a 37-yard touchdown and that would give River Ridge a 17-13 halftime lead.

In the second half, Darian Harper ran for 76 yards to the house. to give River Ridge a 24-13 lead. Redman and Sayre connected yet again for six points, this time a 24-yard touchdown pass and that pulled Capital to within 24-20. Hayden Jacquet found paydirt for the second time, with a two yard touchdown run to pull the Hawks ahead by 11 for the second time in the ballgame. Lucas Redman answered, by finding Greigh Bulloch for 37 yards and making it a 31-27 game with River Ridge still in the lead. Ronaldo Gonzalez added a 2-yard touchdown run for the Hawks to give River Ridge a late 38-27 lead. Capital scored with a few seconds left as Lucas Redman got the touchdown but River Ridge would win 38-35.

River Ridge is now 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in PSL play and the Hawks will face Peninsula next week. Capital drops to 3-3 on the season and 2-1 in PSL play and will look to bounce back next week against North Thurston.

The MVP of the game was Hayden Jacquet with his two touchdowns to help River Ridge secure an important PSL win.
