10/8/24

This week was the perfect encapsulation of how weird and wild football can be and how hard the games can be to predict. While there weren’t a crazy amount of upsets this week, there were a lot of close games between even teams that were quite frankly challenging to predict. While there would be many very low final scores among our entrants, the trio of Jim Spinelli, Roy Clark, and Jeff Johnson separated themselves with all three sitting on 11 points going into Monday Night Football.

All three would choose Kansas City and with everyone that was within a game of them also choosing Kansas City, it meant that one of those three would be the winner and another would finish in second place. Jeff guessed low with the point total at 504, he had to hope for a very low scoring game to beat out Roy’s guess of 672 and Jim’s guess of 709. The 26-13 final was enough to push the point total above Roy’s guess, but not enough to give Jim a shot. The weekly total of 684 gave Roy a strong win and gave Jeff a second place finish.

This week, the Professor tried to go bold by choosing all the home teams but that was not enough to end the losing streak. DW finished this week with 8 which was above the average score of the week.

Roy earns the $25 cash plus an ESN T-Shirt or Polo as well as entry into the exclusive postseason tournament. Jeff also earned an entry into the postseason challenge as well. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.

Now remember, winners can keep winning, you don’t get another post season tournament entry but you do prevent someone from getting in increasing your chances to win. So even if you win you want to keep playing to try and limit the number of finalists. So far this season, nobody has finished in the top two in multiple weeks so as of now we have ten entrants in the postseason tournament.

In the least picked upset of the week, Jeff Johnson was the only entrant to correctly select the Arizona Cardinals to defeat the San Francisco 49ers. The second rarest upset would be the New York Giants who defeated the Seattle Seahawks. It was a tough week for the NFC West as the Los Angeles Rams also would lose to the mighty Green Bay Packers.

Next week’s contest is up and make sure you get your entry in before 4pm on Thursday. Congrats Roy and Jeff and best of luck to everyone this week.
