Curtis 4 Olympia 1
(Olympia, WA)
The Curtis Vikings came into Ingersoll Stadium with a 1-0-1 league record after 9-0 win over Spanaway Lake and a 1-1 draw with Rogers last week. Olympia comes in after getting to 1-1 in SPSL 4A play with a 3-1 loss to Puyallup and a 3-1 win over Graham Kapowsin.
Olympia started off with a lot of possession and good passing down the wing with Audrey Leneker leading the charge. The quick strike counter game of Curtis was the difference in this match. The Vikings got on the board in the 4th minute on a hard low shot from Kat West. Curtis would score again in the 11th minute on a perfectly taken free kick from midfielder Soph Mayne for the 2-0 lead. Olympia would drive and have chances earning 3 corners in the first half but would get shut out in half. The Vikings made it 3-0 before halftime on a well timed run from junior forward Shelby Duah in the 31st minute.
In the 45th minute Olympia’s Hannah Kim took a corner and got an incredible header finish from senior defender Sammi Engelken to make it 3-1. Curtis wasted little time countering with the speed of Duah and getting a one on one with the Bears keeper less than a minute later for the 4-1 final score. That was the last goal but there were plenty more close calls for both teams. Both would finish with 3 corners in the second half Olympia had 6 in the match. Olympia’s goalkeeper Kendra Browse had 6 saves while Curtis’ Nora Bell had 7 saves.
Curtis’ Shelby Duah was named our Eli Sports Network MVP for her brace and game changing ability. Curtis is now 6-0-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the SPSL 4A and hosts Emerald Ridge on October 3rd. Olympia is 4-4 and 1-2 in league with a trip to Yelm on October 3rd.
