10/1/24

Back in March we ran Professor DW’s Bracket Challenge and our winner from that pulled out the win for week #4 in DW’s Football Pick ’em Challenge. Skip Smith earned the win and yet another new entrant into the exclusive postseason challenge. Skip earned 12 points with no large upsets taking place. Going into Monday night, Skip was tied at 10 with Trent Twamley but Skip nailed both games with Tennessee and Detroit pulling out wins to give Skip the outright win without needing the tiebreaker.

The battle for second place was very intense. Trent got one game correct on Monday night to give him 11 but both Mike Lowder, Wes Swick, and Brian Permann all swept the doubleheader to move even with Trent at 11. Mike went low with the point total with 44 points but on a high scoring week that wasn’t going to get the job done. Trent also shot low with offenses down at 480 and fell short of the actual total of 729 total. That left Brian and Wes but Brian just beat out Wes as Permann guessed 651 while Swick went with 616. That meant for the fourth consecutive week, both first and second place were new additions to the exclusive postseason challenge.

For the first time in awhile the Professor did not do a horrible job. DW’s 10 had him in the middle of the pack but the losing streak continues. Now at 21 weeks in a row without a win, DW might need to start looking for a new job ASAP.

Skip earns the $25 cash plus an ESN T-Shirt or Polo as well as entry into the exclusive postseason tournament. Brian also earned an entry into the postseason challenge as well. The winner of the postseason tournament will earn a nice prize package including a 55″ smart TV, a kegorator, a theater Popcorn machine and a neon sign of your favorite football team.

Now remember, winners can keep winning, you don’t get another post season tournament entry but you do prevent someone from getting in increasing your chances to win. So even if you win you want to keep playing to try and limit the number of finalists.

In the least picked upset of the week Denver took down the New York Jets. Only four people correctly picked the Broncos to pull off a second consecutive upset after defeating Tampa Bay one week prior.

Next week’s contest is up and make sure you get your entry in before 4pm on Thursday. Congrats Skip and Brian and best of luck to everyone this week.
