Decatur 55 Kent-Meridian 6

(Kent, WA) Spencer Holloway shined in the first half with 239 all purpose yards and five touchdowns in Decatur’s victory over Kent-Meridian. The win keeps the Golden Gators’ undefeated record intact at 4-0, while the Royals of Kent-Meridian drop to 1-3.

Under the direction of head coach Matt Vaeena, Decatur rose from the pitfalls of a winless season in 2021 to an impressive 8-2 campaign last season. The 2024 Decatur Golden Gators reeled off big wins to begin the year, the first a 14-7 win against previous 2A powerhouse Enumclaw, before the next week rallying back from down 34-13 with nine minutes remaining to stun cross town rival Federal Way 35-34.

The night saw Decatur score on their first seven offensive possessions with the highlight being a 37 yard north and south touchdown run from quarterback Spencer Holloway early in the 2nd quarter. Holloway had a fantastic night through the air going 11/14 167 yards and three touchdown passes to three different receivers (Idris Hayliger, Maddox Hayliger, and Scottie Dinwiddie) Holloway also ran for 72 yards including 2 TD. Devin James Coagdan and Jasonni Prum also scored touchdowns on the ground for Decatur.

The defense for Decatur also was on full display. The defense did not yield a first down until the second quarter, forcing a three and out on the first four drives. The Golden Gator defense also forced two interceptions, a fumble recovery, and two drives ending on downs.

Kent-Meridian did score a touchdown late in the first half on a 10-yard touchdown run from Devontae Redding that displayed a great effort from the Royal offensive line to plow Redding in for the score.

With 239 all-purpose yards and five all purpose touchdowns, Decatur QB Spencer Holloway was named our Cole Health MVP.

Kent Meridian will travel to face Federal Way next Thursday while Decatur will head on the road next Friday to face 4A Skyview.
