This morning in a post on the Bellevue Christian Vikings Football Twitter page, the Vikings announced, “Our administration announced that Bellevue Christian will not be playing football this season. Numbers are too low to safely compete at the varsity level. Players will have the opportunity to play at high schools in their respective school districts. Heartbroken and gutted.”
Some players have gone to X to announce they are playing elsewhere. Rhett Huber, a lineman, said he will be playing for the defending 3A State Champs, Bellevue. Kaden Kivett, announced he will be playing for Lake Washington. Those players and any other player who decides to play for another school can transfer and play to the public school in their home district.
According to Todd Milles of SI who broke the story, spoke with B-C head coach David Castillo, who said at their final practice on Monday, 17 players attended. Castillo said that later on Monday he met with the school administration to speak about the immediate future of the program and on Tuesday, the school decided to cancel the 2024 season. Bellevue Christian is the second 1A school to forgo the 2024 season, as Vashon will not have a varsity season but will play a JV season.
