(Auburn, WA) This will be the 1st week that riders with a win do not crack the top 10. There 25 races last week during Championship Sunday and 15 different riders found the Winner’s Circle, the most so far this season. We are not including the invading riders that were here for just Championship Sunday.Let’s get to this week’s top 10!
2024 Power Rankings #15
#1 Carlos Montalvo (Last week #1)
Carlos Montalvo was one of 3 with 3 wins this week but 2 of them were Stakes races winning the Emerald Distaff and the Washington Oaks. He was 3-1-3-0 from 10 rides and also had a 3rd in the Muckleshoot Derby and did not have a ride in the Mile. He’s currently tied for the 2nd highest win percent at 23% and 2nd in top 4 finishes at 74%.
#2 Juan Gutierrez (Last week unranked)
Juan Gutierrez showed again why he is winningest jockey in Emerald Downs history riding just 6 and getting 12 win with 3 seconds and a 3rd. He is the highest ranked single winner of the season as he won with the 4th long shot in the Muckleshoot Derby and only he and Montalvo taking away wins for the local colony. Guti roars up to #2.
#3 Luis Reyes (Last week #4)
Luis Reyes led the week in winbs with 4 but the Championship races really swayed us this week. Reyes continues to show great consistancy and continues to grind away as he was 4-1-2-1 from 17 rides for a 24% win rate for the week. His on the board average continues to weigh him down just a bit and if he can get his top 3 and 4 finishes over 50 and 60% regularly he will soon be on top.
#4 Alex Cruz (Last week #5)
Alex Cruz continues to battle through the dog days of summer and scored on 3 rides but with 24 mounts the most of the year for any rider his 13% win rate bogged him down a bit. He remains on course to win his 5th consecutive riding title.
#5 Isaias Enriquez (Last week #10)
Isaias Enriquez probably doesn’t feel like it was as good a week as he really did have a rough day on Sunday and not much to speak of from the Stakes races. But he had already put 3 wins in the books from Friday and Saturday. He finished the week 3-1-0-0 from 14 rides but 7 of those rides were on Sunday where he got blanked from any on the board finishes. His win percent was 43% thru 2 days and dropped to 21% after Sunday.
#6 Manuel Americano (Last week #10)
The apprentice is growing by leaps and bounds each week posting his best week of the year with a 2-2-2-1 record from 9 mounts for a win % of 22% 67% top 3 and 78% superfecta finish. Manuel Americano climbs to his highest position in the PR’s yet.
#7 Jose Zunino (Last week #6)
The Carpenter had a solid week and no doubt would of loved another 100 yards in the Longacres Mile with Slew’s Tiz Whiz. Zunino went 1-2-1 from 6 rides and the 3rd place finish in the Longacres Mile keeps the veteran right in the mix of the #15 Power Rankings.
#8 Kevin Krigger (Last week #2)
It was a tough week for Kevin Krigger b y his standards most others would be pleased with his week of 1-3-2-1 with a couple of on the board finishes in stakes races. Krigger continues to lead all riders in win percent at 32%, 68% top 3 and 77% top 4. He drops but for how long?
#9 Allyssa Morales (Last week unranked)
Allyssa Morales bounced back and grabbed a win along with a place and 4 shows. Her place finish was also in a Stakes race as well so a solid weekend for Morales as she cracks the top 10 once again.
#10 Karlo Lopez (Last week #3)
Karlo Lopez got back in the rankings last week jetting up to #3 but this week some bad luck came his way as his ride in the Oaks with the morning line favorite Arctic Breeze was scratched and his longshot ride in the Mckelshoot Derby on Veritas Aequitas was also a late scratch. So landing a big win was off the table before he started. Lopez still had a good week with a 1-1-3-3 record from 14 rides to keep him in the top 10.
The other riders who had a win but just missed our top 10 included Leslie Mawing, Kiaman McGregor and David Martin. The 2 shipping in riders with wins were Joe Bravo and Alexander Chaves.
