(Auburn, WA) If Friday night was any indication then Chamionship weekend is going to have great racing and chances to win big, the perfect combination for racing fans. There were odds on favorites all the way to the longest shot on the board in the winners circle. Front speed held and a winner from 15 lengths back came roaring down the stretch to win easy. Really a little bit of everything.
In the Friday night feature a well matched field of 7 went 6 1/2 furlongs and the favorite was a lukewarm 5-2 and for good reason in this race. Also the streak is over for jockey Kevin Krigger and trainer Justin Evans.
Let’s get to Friday Night!
6th Race Feature Race
The field of 7 were well matched and featured front speed, stalkers and deep closers. The speed led by 9-1 Mister Mafioso with Karlo Lopez went to the front and set fractions of 21.65, 43.49 and 1:09.06. Chuckanut Bay the 5-2 favorite, 3-1 Dirt Road Red and 9-2 A View from Above all sat just behind Mister Mafioso waiting for their shot to make their runs.
Unfortunately, none could catch the early speed and Mister Mafioso had a 2 1/2 length lead at the top of the stretch and looked like another upset win for team Mafioso. However the deep closers were stirring. 17-1 Firewalker with David Martin made his move wide and came flying down the middle of the track at 17-1. Further back as far as 15 lengths at one point was 9-2 Fantastic Day with Carlos Montalvo.
Both Montalvo and Martin let the rest run themselves off their feet as Montalvo stayed on the rail saved ground and burst through a huge opening on the inside and he and Firewalker went rolloing by the tiring Mister Mafioso. Fantastic Day collared both at the 16th pole and pulled away for a 3/4 length win over Firewalker who had put 3+ lengths on Mister Mafioso who held on for 3rd by a neck over Dirt Road Red and Luis Reyes.
Fantastic Day stopped the clock in 1:15.44 and races for Alan Peterson and trained by Jorge Rosales. Fantastic Day is now 11-6-3 from 40 career starts and adds $13,965 to his bank account for a career total of $159,938. Fantastic Day paid $11.92, $6.48 and $3.56. Firewalker returned $15.12 and $7.78 and Mister Mafioso paid $4.68 to show.
The $1 exacta paid $84.62, the 50-cent trifecta $250.13 and the $1 superfecta $3002.30.
