(Auburn, WA) Carlos Montalvo has been red hot this year and this week he makes it to the #1 position in our weekly Power Rankings. Kevin Krigger and Karlo Lopez also posted big weeks. Let’s get to this week’s top 10!

2024 Power Rankings #14

#1 Carlos Montalvo (Last week #2)
Carlos Montalvo began the week with 2 rides on Friday and 3 rides on Saturday and won his first 4 races before finishing 2nd nearly sweeping 5 straight rides. He finished with 10 mounts and a 4-2-1-2 record winning at 40%, exacta finish 60%, in the trifecta 70% and top 4 rate of 90%. Montalvo remains consistent and hot and can be counted on getting your horse in contention and on the board at a high rate. This was his week.

#2 Kevin Krigger (Last week #1)
Kevin Krigger couldn’t hold onto the top spot for a 3rd consecutive week but man he tried. He likely would have but a controversial and questionable DQ from 1st to 2nd for some light contact would have given him another 5+ win week. Krigger finished 4-4-2-1 from 15 mounts, we think his most rides in a week all year. He wona t 27% and top 4 was 73%. The slight nod went to Carlos this week.

#3 Karlo Lopez (Last week unranked)
Karlo Lopez snapped a 7 day dryspell by winning the 2nd leg of the Hollywood Harbor Sprint series with a longshot Party Foul. Lopez went on to finish the week 3-2-2-5 from 17 mounts. Lopez was an 18% winner top 3 41% and 71% top 4. Lopez comes firing back up the PR’s to #3.

#4 Luis Reyes (Last week #5)
Luis Reyes just keeps grinding away and visited the Winners Circle 3 times last week with 3 2nds a show and a 4th from 16 rides. He was a 19% winner but just 50% top 4 finish rate which hurt him climbing up past #4 but still up 1 spot from last week is a good week.

#5 Alex Cruz (Last week #3)
Alex Cruz has had some mid-season doldrums himslef but has found ways to keep adding wins to his total despite hitting a bump in the road. Cruz had 19 rides and went 2-1-2-9 for just an 11% win rate, 26% top 3 but completes the superfecta regulalry  for a 74% top 4. He drops 2 positions to #5.

#6 Jose Zunino (Last week #6)
The “Carpenter” Jose Zunino was hard at work with his 4 mounts and will come into Championship Sunday on a high note as he 100% in the trifecta going 1-1-2 from his 4 rides. Zunino continues to be one you must have in your bets and be ready for him to pull an upset.

#7 Silvio Amador (Last week unranked)
Silvio Amador is the victim of numbers of not enough runners to have such a great rider not getting more chances as he continues to prove he is one that should be riding 10-15 week. Instead he is simply the leading Stakes winning jockey this year getting his 3rd this last weekend in the Lads stakes on Sunday with Si That Tiger.

#8 Kevin Orozco (Last week #unranked)
Kevin Orozco scored his 2nd Stakes win of the season with Precise timing in the Lassies on Saturday. Orozco an Emerald regular for many years now booted home the favorite for a huge win. He was 1-1-1 from 5 rides this week with a 20% win rate and 60% top 3 finish.

#9 Kiaman McGregor (Last week #8)
Kiaman McGregor blew up the tote board when he crossed first with 37-1 Vhagar on Sunday. He also had probably his 2nd best week going 1-1-2 from 6 rides and does slip a bit down just 1 spot to #9 in this week’s rankings.

#10 Isaias Enriquez (Last week #4)
Isaias Enriquez is having a stellar season and another with limited opportunities but continues to win and hit the board on a regular basis. Enriquez was 1-0-2-0 from 7 rides this week and does drop 6 spots but don’t go to sleep on the wiley vet.

#10 Manuel Americano (Last week #9)
Last week Americano broke the top 10 to the 9 spot and didn’t even have a win but we only had 8 winning riders last week but Manuel was 8 of 9 with 2nd, 3rd and 4th finishes. This week he got a win and was 1-1-0-1 from 4 rides and so we couldn’t leave him off the top 10. Americano is on the fast track in learning his way around this business.
