The next athletes we are taking a look at are all rowers, Jacob Plihal, Evan Olson, and Riley Milne.
Jacob Plihal is from Vashon Island and will be making his first appearance on Team USA in the Olympics. Plihal went to Vashon Island High School before heading to Northeastern where he competed for the Huskies. Plihal was the captain of the team and decided to pursue a career in rowing. He secured his spot in the Olympics at the final qualifying event in Lucerne, Switzerland where he won the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds to lock his place in Paris. Plihal will be competing in the men’s single sculls. Plihal has been on five National teams but this is his first time on the Olympic team.
Evan Olson is from Seattle and will also be making his first appearance on the Olympic team. Olson attended Bothell High School where he ran cross country and track. Then he went to the University of Washington where he competed on the Huskies rowing team for four years where Olson had a very successful career. He qualified for the Olympics on the men’s eight team as they qualified at the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland. They won gold at that event. This is Olson’s first Olympic team.
Rielly Milne is Olson’s teammate on the men’s eight team and Milne is from Woodinville. Milne attended Brentwood College School before also going to the University of Washington where he also had a very successful career. Milne was a coxswain at Washington and still is on the team. He’s been on multiple national teams but never an Olympic team before this year. At the final qualification event, the team needed to finish in the top two where they won gold.
