7/23/2024

This is the year of change and it will be impacting Districts and leagues. First, it is the beginning of another 4-year classification cycle and the WIAA shifted some of the classification ranges in an attempt to try and even the number of schools per classification without putting schools in a huge disadvantage or advantage.

The WIAA also has reduced the number of Districts from 9 to 6. The idea of districts was for each district to work with common schools on scheduling, rules and post season tournaments. They were implemented when each district was closer to the same size and had several schools in each classification.

Growth has added 2 more classifications over the last 25 years or so to 6 classifications further dividing many of the schools. So by reducing the districts that increases the schools for each district and pulls each district closer and more comparable in size with each other.

The districts are as follows: (District 1-2-3-4 are all on the westside of the Cascades, Districts 5 and 6 on the eastside.)

District 1: North King County north to Whatcom County or approximately Edmonds to Blaine.
District 2: North King County to South Seattle or approximately the Seattle Metro area.
District 3: South King County to North Thurston County and up half of the eastside of the Olympic Peninsula to Clallam County or Renton to Olympia and up to Port Angeles.
District 4: South Thurston County up to West Jefferson County south along the coast over to Skamania County or Tumwater to Forks to Vancouver metro area.
District 5: Central Washington from Okanogan County at the North straight south to Klickitat and Benton County. Other counties included are Chelan, Douglas, Kittitas, Grant and Yakima.
District 6: Eastern Washington from the north of Ferry, Stevens and Pend Oreille counties south to Walla Walla, Columbia, Garfield and Asotin counties. Other counties include Franklin, Adams, Whitman, Lincoln and Spokane.

This is a break down of all the leagues for District 6, their classifications and league names.
