Wimbledon Recap Day 3: Ruud loses early again; Gauff cruises again

The second round ensued at Wimbledon today, where the finest players again were on full display.

Gentlemen’s Singles

Daniil Medvedev was given all he could handle against Alexandre Muller, in a tough four set encounter (6(4)-7) (7-6(3) (6-4) (7-5).

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz won a tough first set en route to a straight sets win against Aleksandar Vukic.

Francis Tiafoe earned a straight set win against Borna Coric, in the post game interview, Tiafoe said, “he’s coming for Carlos”. Alcaraz when he was told in his on court interview Tiafoe was coming for him, Alcaraz responded saying with a smile, “I’m coming for him”.

Fabio Fognini earned a victory against the grass court challenged eighth seed Casper Ruud in a four set victory.

Australia’s Thansi Kokkinakis rallied down two sets and four match points down to Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime to advance to the second round.

American Tommy Paul survived his match against Otto Virtanen in five sets.

World No. 1 Italian Jannik Sinner outlast fellow countryman and former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini (7-6(3)) (7-6(4)) (2-6) (7-6(3)) to move on to the third round.

Ladies’ Singles

Coco Gauff continued her dominance with another match only dropping three games against Anca Todoni.

American Emma Navarro four time major champion Naomi Osaka in a straight sets victory (6-4) (6-1).

Emma Raducanu in her home tournament defeated Elise Mertens in straight sets to advance to the third round to face the nine seed Maria Sakkari.

Danielle Collins on day two of her match against Denmark’s Clara Tauson won a second set tiebreaker to take the match and advance to the second round.

Italy’s Jasmine Paolini advanced with a straight sets win against Belgium’s Greet Minnen.
