Aberdeen came in to Tumwater District Stadium off a 2-0 loss to Ridgefield to take on a familiar but unexpected team. Tumwater was upset by the GSHL number 4 seed Hockinson 1-0 on Tuesday making their road to the state tournament a bit tougher for last years 3rd place team.
The Bobcats knew they would have to play Tumwater tough defensively and did so for a big majority of the first half. Tumwater would break thru in the 36th minute when Sophie Boatright cleaned up a blocked shot by Bobcat keeper Jaylynn Phimmasone to put the birds up 1-0 in the half. This goal would be named our Better Homes and Gardens Northwest Home Team Takin it to the House Play of the Game.
Tumwater didn’t take as long to score in the second half as Emalyn Shaffer found the back of the net in the 46th minute. Aberdeen changed tactics and started to send more players up the field to try and score. Annie Troeh was on an island up top for the Bobcats for most of the game but got help from Abby Mainio and Scotlyn Lecomte in the second half. The Tumwater offense ended up being too much with constant pressure down the wings from Reese Heryford and Ava Jones. Jones was named our Thorbecke’s MVP with her play down the wing and overall impact on the game. Tumwater would get 2 goals late in the game from Sophomore Kayla Pope one in the 66th and then a PK in the 70th minutes giving the T-Birds a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats never quit and got on the board in stoppage time when Scotlyn Lecomte blasted a deflection off a free kick from Annie Troeh just before the final whistle was blown.
The loss for Aberdeen ends their season with a 9-8 record. Tumwater now has to travel to Columbia River to play the defending State Champs in a loser out/winner to state match on Saturday. Columbia River was upset by R A Long 1-0 forcing a meeting of the number 1 seeds from the GSHL and EVCO 2A.
