The 10th Power Rankings go full circle from week 1 with Kevin Radke skyrocketing back to the top of the rankings scoring 5 wins leading all this past weekend including a Stakes win. Alex Cruz and Luis Negron continue their heated battle for the Jockey Championship and both put up solid weeks, Silvio Amador tripled and Jose Ruis makes his 1st appearance on the PR’s. Let’s get to week 10 Jockey Power Rankings!
The Red Hot Mover of the Week!
#1 Kevin Radke
Kevin Radke is our RED HOT MOVER of the week with 5 wins including taking the Irish Day Stakes on Clovisconnection his 3rd stakes win of the season. Radke went 5-3-0-1 from 14 starts for a 36% win rate and 64% top 4 finish. Radke is 3rd in the Jockey standings in wins but #1 in earnings now topping 520k. Radke soars to the top of the PR’s!
#2 Alex Cruz
Alex Cruz drops one spot to #2 with the 2nd most wins of the week with 4. Cruz just 2 weeks ago trailed Luis Negron by 10 in the standings and since then has cut into the lead by 60% down by just 4. Cruz rode a week high 18 mounts and finished 4-5-3-0 for a 22% win clip and 67% superfecta finish.
#3 Luis Negron
Luis Negron rebounded from a season low ranking of 8 back up the poll to #3. Negron tied for 3rd most wins but what set Negron apart is this was his best week of the under finishes. Negron rode in 17 race and went 3-5-4-1 for a win rate of 18% and an impressive 76% top 4 finish. Negron making a statement he’s not going to surrender the top spot of the standings and it’s gonna be a battle.
#4 Silvio Amador
Silvio Amador won a big 33% of his 9 rides this week, 1 more than last week but does not move up or drop and holds steady here at #4. The biggest reason is it was an off week for Amador who has been very consistent at hitting the board. Amador finished with a 3-0-1-1 record for the week for a 56% top 4 finish.
#5 Carlos Montalvo
In many weeks Montalvo’s week would have had him higher than #5 as he won 22% and was in the top 4 100% but the numbers game simply got him and if someone disagrees and believes he should be higher we simply can’t argue that perspective, it was this tight. But we gave the more wins more weight and 5 of the top 4 finishes for Montalvo was 4th place. However, one of his wins was his 2nd Stakes win of the season with Aloha Breeze in the Kent stakes.
Blazer of the Week!
#6 Alex Anaya
Alex Anaya is our Blazer of the week because of what he has done with very limited starts. He finished 1-1-1-3 from just 7 starts winning the week’s get-away race at 6-1 on Sunday. He earned the Blazer with a 2nd place finish in the Kent Stakes on 19-1 Stepup and then a 3rd place finish in the Irish Day Stakes on 5-1 Jin Ton. His 4th place runs all on longshots. It’s been a frustrating year for Anaya but he’s starting to put together a nice run.
#7 Jennifer Whitaker
The Queen of Emerald Downs the veteran is on a heck of a win streak winning 1 race each of the past 3 weeks with limited rides. She had 2 mounts this past weekend and pulled off a nose win in a 4 horse race at 9-1 and finished 3rd on her other mount. Since July 1st Whitaker has had 10 mounts with 3 wins with a 2nd a 3rd and a 4th for a 30% win rate and 60% top 4.
#8 Jose Ruis
Jose Ruis was close to being our Blazer of the week as he finished 1-0-2-0 from 3 rides but looked like he was gonna be 2-0-1-0 but got DQ’d and placed 3rd. Had he finished with the 2 wins he could have really shaken up the upper end of the rankings.
#9 Rocco Bowen
Rocco Bowen remains #9 simply because he was here for just 1 day and did go 1-1-1-1 from 4 rides and we move with caution with those who ride here part time. Looks like Rocco is going to have a big chance if he has a big weekend as he is signed on to ride all 3 days.
Tie #10 Alexis Valdes
Alexis Valdes gets back on the Power rankings in a tie for 10th with a solid week getting a win a pair of places and a show from 10 starts. Valdes is capable of going off and we won’t be surprised to see if he makes a big move this week.
Tie #10 Jose Zunino
The old pro was a nose away from really stirring things up just missing winning a 2nd race of the week in the Irish Day Stakes on Lloyds Logic just missing the win to settle for 2nd. Zunino had 6 rides with a 1-1-1-0 record. He has Slew’s Tiz Whiz in the Governors Stakes this weekend so a big win there will certainly move him up.
