#11 Sumner – 5 vs #2 Puyallup – 1
For the fourth time this year, Sumner and Puyallup played each other with Puyallup winning two of the first three games. The aces for both sides delivered dynamic performances in the first three innings with Sumner’s Jake Bresnahan throwing three perfect innings. In the fourth, Puyallup scored the game’s first run as Kai Halstead drove in Donte Grant on a single. In the bottom of the fifth, Bresnahan grounded into a double play but it scored a run in the process to tie the game at 1. Sumner’s bats really woke up in the top of the sixth, as all nine batters stepped up to the plate and four runs came across the plate with the 9-hitter, Sean Ryan breaking the tie with a two-RBI single. Bradley Carl and Bresnahan each had RBI singles to give Sumner a 5-1 lead. That’s all Sumner would need as Bresnahan struck out nine Vikings and went all seven innings, allowing just three hits as he was our co-MVP of the game. Our other Thorbeckes MVP was Ryan, as he started a crucial double play in the bottom of the sixth on top of his clutch hit in the top of the frame.

#5 Tahoma – 1 vs #1 Eastlake – 5
Tahoma and Eastlake played each other last year in the Opening Round of State last year, but this year, both sides came into the game with impressive records of 24-2. In the nightcap, Tahoma got their lone run of the game in the opening frame with Carson Ohland getting a sac fly that drove in Jack Dodge. The Wolves got to starter, Logan Pierce in the second with back-to-back doubles by Luke Murawski and Blake Borup who drove in Murawksi for the first run. Eastlake came back in the third with pitcher Bryce Johnson doing work for himself, breaking the 1-1 tie with an RBI single. Luke Murawski had another double but this time it drove in two more runs. Blake Borup had an RBI single that gave Eastlake a 4-run third inning and that’s all Bryce Johnson needed. As the night went on, Johnson got better and better, earning the win in a complete game, six-strikeout performance which was good enough to earn the Thorbeckes MVP.

#2 Lincoln (Sea) – 5 vs #3 West Seattle – 4
The first game of the day got off with a bang as Erik Petrie for Lincoln (Seattle) had a pair of triples for the Lynx. They were able to cash in early, scoring all 5 of their runs in the first three innings of the game. The Lynx had great pitching from their star ace, Bjorn Johnson, who went 6 2/3 innings on the day as he reached the 105 pitch count threshold. He was able to keep the Wildcats tamed after West Seattle scored two runs in the 4th to make it a 5-4 game. That ended up being the final score as Lincoln (Seattle) was able to take the win over a familiar foe in West Seattle. Bjorn Johnson was our Thorbeckes MVP for going the distance and holding the lead for the Lynx with Petrie getting a shoutout as his two triples helped set a positive tone for the Lynx to advance to the championship game.

#4 Lake Washington – 6 vs #9 O’Dea – 0
In the other game of the day, Lake Washington and O’Dea battled it out for the second spot in the Championship Game. Lake Washington wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, after loading the bases with no outs, Paxton Fenberg drove the first run home for the Kangaroos, then Cooper Neilson drove another, and capping off the three-run first was an attempted double steal but the Roos scored their run before the tag was applied and before O’Dea had a chance to bat, they were down 3-0 in the first. Carsen Mann was on the hill for Lake Washington and he pitched a gem, holding the Fighting Irish off the scoreboard all day. Lake Washington had a sac fly in the third and added two more runs in the fifth via a fielding error and a hit-by-pitch. Our Thorbeckes MVP was Carsen Mann who went 3-4 hitting three singles and pitched a complete game shutout.
