The District 4 1A boys soccer tournament was down to 3 matches left including the District Championship match set for Saturday at 11am. The time has been changed to 11am due to the projected hot weather so the visiting team Montesano will take on the home team Seton Catholic on the neutral field in Tenino with temperatures expected in the mid to upper 80’s. Both teams felt an earlier start was in their best interest especially playing on the black turf at Tenino.
Meantime, on Thursday night 4 teams faced off in Montesano with their season’s on the line in 2 winner to state, loser out games. Our coverage of both the Eatonville vs Columbia (White Salmon) and Elma vs King’s Way Christian matches are below with a quick re-cap but our full post game shows with video highlights and photos.
It had been agreed since finishing 3rd or 4th made no difference in seeding into the state tournament the match to determine 3rd and 4th place in district would not be played. Two factors came into play, neither team wanted another loss that could impact their RPI and believe that could impact how they are seeded into the state tournament bracket and the other factor was not wanting to risk any injuries in a game with little meaning.
Here is our coverage from last night.
Game 1
Columbia (White Salmon) 5, Eatonville 0
The Bruins scored early and often with the 1st goal just 90-seconds into the match. Columbia (White Salmon) then added goals in the 4th, 12th and 22nd minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead to the half. A 5th goal in the 50th sealed the win and The Bruins are headed to state while the Cruisers had their season come to an end.
