On Tuesday evening, the Black Hills Wolves were hoping to end their three-match losing streak and pick up their second win against a 2A EVCO opponent. Meanwhile, the Centralia Tigers were hoping to build off of their impressive 6-0 victory over Tenino on Saturday.

From the opening whistle, the pace was very quick as both sides were looking to secure the first goal of the match. Black Hills was able to draw a pair of corner kicks and off of their second attempt, they hit the post with one of three shot attempts but the game remained scoreless. Centralia was able to put together some nice passes but the Black Hills defenders were able to hold their line for the majority of the half and limit the Tigers from putting up high-quality opportunities. At the half, the score was tied at 0 but both goalkeepers were tested and had to come up with some saves to keep it scoreless.

In the second half, the Black Hills offense came alive right from the start as they drew a corner kick 15 seconds into the half but Centralia’s defense stood tall and was able to keep the ball out of the net. Later in the half, in the 57th minute, Black Hills’s Jace Brookerson lined up for a free kick and was able to beat the keeper with a perfectly placed kick, just inside the near post to give the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Then just four minutes later, Brookerson took a pass, did a spin move around a Tigers defender, and gave it a go from even farther out. The ball bounced off of the keeper’s hands and went into the net for the second goal for Black Hills. The Wolves’ defense would be tested after that as Centralia tried to pick up the pace but the Wolves would be too much for the Tiger’s offense to handle. Centralia picked up a couple of cards during the match and had 12 shots but none found the back of the net as Black Hills would win the contest 2-0.

With the victory, Black Hills now have six points and are tied with Centralia for fourth place in the 2A EVCO standings. The Wolves are now 3-4-0 overall and 2-4-0 in league play. Their next match is Friday at home where they will play Shelton.

The 2-0 loss would be the first time Centralia was shutout all season as they have now dropped four of their last five matches. The Tigers will look to bounce back with a game tomorrow against Aberdeen, who is undefeated.
