Sumner 61, Battle Ground 55

(Summer, WA)

Coming into Tuesday’s Loser-out 4A District 3/4 Playoff game, it was the Spartans who ended a three-game losing streak to fight off a tough Battle Ground team in the 61-55 victory for Sumner on their home gym.

Battle Ground started off strong with a 4-0 lead early on and lead 14-13 after one quarter, but Sumner rallied to take control of the game by outscoring the Tigers 19-9 in the 2nd quarter and never looked back in the victory.  The Spartans got strong performances from Senior guards Javion McLaughlin and Kaden Kastberg who finished with 14 and 15 points to lead the Spartans. Tait Spencer and Trey Spencer both had high scoring games with 24 and 22 points respectably, but the rest of the team only scored nine points combined for the Tigers.

Sumner will play Tahoma on Friday, on Friday at 7 at Tahoma High School. Tahoma beat Kentwood 61-53 to force a winner to State game on Friday.
