Former Emerald Downs jockey Joree Scriver suffered serious spinal injuries from a spill on New Year’s Day at Sunland Park racetrack. Scriver fractured her lower back and is suffering from paralysis below the waist. She also suffered other injuries and remains in intensive care. The full story is on this link from the Daily Racing Form’s Steve Anderson.
Scriver did not ride at Emerald last year but made a big impact in 2021. Her last win at Emerald was aboard Todos Santos owned by Lynn Hebdon and trained by Jorge Rosales. Last year she rode mostly in Arizona at Turf Paradise and Zia Park.
There is a Go Fund Me account set up for Scriver who will have large medical bills. The goal was set at $30,000 and already more than $25,000 has been raised. If you would like to contribute click on this link: Joree Scriver Go-Fund-Me
